Brillante Mendoza’s Thy Womb is now an official entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) which opens on Christmas Day.
Starring Nora Aunor, Thy Womb has been exhibited at the Venice International Film Festival last month where it received a standing ovation for more than five minutes.
The cast attended the festival and while there, Nora received the Bisato d’Oro award from Premio Della Critica Indipendiente, an independent film critics’ group in Italy not associated with the Venice International Film Festival.
Thy Womb is also currently nominated in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards for two categories – Achievement in Directing for Brillante Mendoza and Best Performance by an Actress for Nora Aunor. Winners will be revealed on November 23.
The movie is not in the initial list of official entries to the 2012 MMFF. It came as a replacement to Unitel Pictures’ Mga Kwento Ni Lola Basyang which recently pulled out of the festival.
With Thy Womb in the 2012 MMFF, I’m sure some of the aspiring nominees for the Best Actress award have already been disheartened. With the Bisato d’Oro award for her performance in the movie, many are already sure Nora would bag the top acting award at the MMFF this year.
