James Bond’s myth in Vault magazine’s special issue

Vault Magazine’s special issue celebrates the myth of James Bond and the enviable lifestyle he represents: an exciting world of cool cars and amazing gadgets, of lovely ladies and sartorial elegance. Above all, it brings readers back to a time when men fashioned themselves as gentlemen, no matter how imperfect or politically incorrect that turned out to be.

In this issue, they retrace the iconic cars of the Bond films, including the newly reissued Aston Martin DB5 that appears in the latest movie “Skyfall,” and take a closer look at 007’s handgun of choice, the Walther PPK. They revisit Bond’s sartorial choices—who could ever forget Sean Connery in a crisp, bespoke suit?—and offer a primer on black tie essentials, so you, too, can conjure 007’s dapper looks. Along with Bond’s famous line, “Shaken, not stirred,” they recall his favorite martinis and show you how to make them. They also pay tribute to his famous muses in our gallery of the top 10 Bond girls of all time.

The image of the archetypal gentleman resurrected by the Bond franchise explains why the films are enjoyed immensely. 007 does more than any other fictional spy to make the business of saving the world seem so civilized. The women are always beautiful, the locations exotic, and the cars fast and furious—all things that represent the spirit and essence of Vault.
