Donna Summer dies at 63

Donna Summer succumbed to lung cancer on May 17, 2012. She was 63.

The Queen of Disco believed she contracted the disease after inhaling toxic particles during the 9/11 attack in New York.

Her family release a statement saying they "are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.” The statement also said that they appreciate everyone’s prayers and love for their family at this sensitive time.

Donna was famous for her disco hits in the 70s like Last Dance, Hot Stuff, and Love To Love You Baby among others, and in the 80s with hits She Works Hard For The Money and This Time I Know It’s For Real.

The 5-time Grammy winner married twice – in the 70s with actor Helmuth Summer and in 1980 with Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano. She had a daughter with her first marriage and two more daughters with her second.
