After a nationwide vote of over 132 million, Phillip Phillips was declared the winner of the 11th season of the hit singing reality show, American Idol, meaning Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez lost the battle for the crown.
The 16-year-old failed to impress majority of the American voters with her performances of I Have Nothing, The Prayer and Change Nothing during the finale performance show. The judges even didn’t like her third song, which was her potential winner’s song, saying it didn’t suit her.
Her fans all over the world shouldn’t be sad, though, because she will immediately be working on her new single. It was revealed by Mexican singer/actress Thalia on Twitter by posting: “WOWgreat news! #TommyMottola just call me from #AmericanIdol & he is confirm to work in the first #JessicaSanchez CD! #MexicanFilipinoPower”
Thalia, who rose to fame in the Philippines via her Tagalog-dubbed telenovelas, is the wife of Tommy Mottola, co-owner of Casablanca Records.
During the finale which was aired live in the Philippines this morning by ETC, Jessica did various performances including a group performance with the top twelve girls and Chaka Khan. She also did I Will Always Love You and And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going with original singer Jennifer Holliday. Her duet with the original Dreamgirl got a standing ovation from the judges.
With that powerhouse voice, I’m sure she’s the next big thing in the music scene.
