Ashleigh Butler, the trainer, is from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, while Pudsey is a six-year-old dog that is a cross-breed of Border Collie, Bichon Frise and Chinese Crested.

As the show’s winner, the two will perform at the 84th Royal Variety Performance this December in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. They also won £500,000 in cash.

Jonathan and Charlotte, an opera duo, ended up in the second place, and Only Boys Aloud, a Welsh male choir, was third.

It was reported, however, that judge and the show’s creator Simon Cowell is already in negotiations to offer Jonathan and Charlotte a £1 million recording contract.
