American Idol is all about song choices. The show could make or break a contestant through the songs they give him/her.
In season 7, Syesha Mercado was eliminated from the top 3 in favor of David Cook and David Archuleta. Syesha was talented enough to belt out diva songs, but the show gave her a Happy Feet song titled Hit Me Up for the Producer’s Choice.
And that’s her last song, something that, given the right song, could have given her more votes.
This season, Jessica Sanchez is also against two male contestants – Phillip Phillips and Joshua Ledet. The only song that made her stand out was her personal pick, I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith (of which judge Steven Tyler was the front man).
Her two other songs were Mariah Carey’s My All for the Judge’s Pick (Jennifer Lopez) and Jackon 5’s I’ll Be There for Jimmy Iovine’s Pick. The first song was so controlled she didn’t have any chance to showcase what she got, and the Jackson 5 song was the same. She had moments but given a different song like last week’s And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, she could’ve shine a little more.
DialIdol.com says Jessica Sanchez got the least number of phone-in votes after the top 3 performance show, and the website had been right about their top 3 predictions for seasons now. Since they started in season 4, whoever was in their bottom list (aside from season 6) gets the boot.
Could Jessica really be the one going home tomorrow? Let’s just hope and pray she does not.
