AI 11: Jessica Sanchez is in the Top 3; Hollie Cavanagh gets eliminated

Filipino-Mexican American Idol 11 contestant Jessica Sanchez in now officially part of the top 3! She wowed the judges with her top 4 performances and even got a standing ovation for her second song, Jennifer Holliday’s And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.

Hollie Cavanagh, on the other hand, failed to get enough votes from the American audience, and after being part of the bottom group for so many times, she was eliminated. Her second performance during the top 4 show was a little shaky and failed to impress the judges, hence, the American televiewers as well.

Jessica was joined in the top 3 by Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips, making Jessica the only female contestant left standing.

This season’s top 3 reminds me of season 7 with David Cook, David Archuleta and Syesha Mercado. Syesha, despite her talent, was eliminated because, as critics say, American voters compose mostly of female fans. They rooted for the more charismatic Archuleta and Cook.

I hope the same wouldn’t happen to Jessica next week as the three contestants vie for the final 2.

Meanwhile, watch Jessica’s performance of Jennifer Holliday’s And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, complete with the judges’ comments.
