"She's Dating The Gangster" director apologizes to book's fans

She's Dating The Gangster director Cathy Garcia-Molina apologized to the readers of the book the movie was adapted from.

According to the blockbuster director, some fans of the book weren't that open to changes, but explained that any novel turned into a movie has been altered in one way or another.

"Marami po kasing followers ng libro na medyo hindi amenable to change and to revisions. I did apologize that we had to do it. Kahit naman pong anong novel na in-adapt to a movie ay mayroong pagbabago na kailangan," she said in a press conference.

She noted, however, that the changes they made have been approved by the book's author, Bianca Bernardino, and publisher, Summit Media.

"With Ms. Bianca's permission and Summit also, mayroon kaming parang go signal to make it mas palatable to the audience of the movie," she said.

Meanwhile, the director said the movie's lead stars, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, did their best to give justice to their characters, Athena Dizon and Kenji Delos Reyes.

"I am so proud of these two na nagawa nilang gampanan at pangatawanan nang tama sina Athena at Kenji," she said. It's not her first time, though, to be a director to the love team as she also did the tandem's hit television series Got To Believe.

She's Dating The Gangster is produced by Star Cinema and will open in cinemas nationwide on July 16, 2014. Check out the full trailer here.
