Southern Leyte hit by magnitude 5.3 earthquake

Southern Leyte was rocked with a magnitude 5.3 earthquake on Friday morning, July 25, 2014.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at exactly 7:57:25 AM, with epicenter located 8 kilometers (km) southwest of Hinundayan.


The quake had a depth of 7 km and was tectonic in origin.

The magnitude 5.3 earthquake was felt in the following areas:

Intensity VI - Hinundayan, Hinunangan & St. Bernard, Southern Leyte
Intensity V - Anahawan, Southern Leyte
Intensity IV - Tacloban City; Maasin City; San Ricardo, Southern Leyte
Dulag, Leyte; Loreto & Dinagat, Dinagat Prov.
Intensity III - Palo & Pastrana, Leyte Prov.
Intesity II - Cebu City; Talisay City; Bogo City; Surigao City; Ormoc City; Burgos, Surigao Del Norte
Intensity I - Lapu-lapu City
