Jake Cuenca, Barbara Miguel nominated in Queens World Film Fest

Jake Cuenca and Barbara Miguel are nominated at the 4th Queens World Film Festival for their respective roles in the independent film, Nuwebe. The film fest takes place from March 4-9, 2014 in New York.

Cuenca is nominated in the Best Actor Male category for his portrayal of an abusive father who got his child pregnant in the film written and directed by Joseph Israel Laban. The movie was based on a true story of one of the youngest mothers in Philippine history.

Miguel, meanwhile, who played the role of the nine-year-old mother named Krista, was the only child nominated in the festival. Before this, she also won Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival, also in New York.

The movie itself is nominated in the Best Narrative Feature category, and Laban is in the list of nominees under Best Director Narrative Feature category.

Nuwebe was originally an entry to the New Breed category of the 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. Check out the trailer:
