Paulo Avelino was inspired to do more indie films after bagging the Best Actor award for his performance in Ang Sayaw Ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa at the recently-held 35th Gawad Urian (2012).
He said actors have more freedom in portraying their roles in indie films compared to doing mainstream movies.
“Malaya ka kasing i-express ‘yong gusto mong gawin sa character mo ‘pag indie,” he told the press after the Gawad Urian awards night. “I’m looking forward to do a few more.”
He said it was one of his goals to win acting awards but he never expected last night’s victory considering the names he had to go against. Among the nominees for the category were Tirso Cruz III, Ronnie Lazaro and Raymond Bagatsing.
The award was his second for his performance in Ang Sayaw Ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa. Last April, he was awarded with Pinakapasadong Katuwang na Aktor (Best Supporting Actor) by Gawad Pasado for the same role.
Despite his urge to do indie films, though, the Walang Hanggan star will soon be topbilling Regal Film’s The Bride and the Lover with Jennylyn Mercado, Lovi Poe and Mikael Daez.
