The hunt is on again for the next OPM pop hit as the country’s biggest songwriting competition in the country, “Himig Handog Pinoy Pop (P-POP) Love Songs” calls for original compositions from professional and budding Filipino composers around the globe.
Professional and amateur Filipino songwriters (Filipino citizens or individuals of Filipino descent) are welcome to send in their original love songs online via the official website of the competition, himighandog.abs-cbn.com until July 31.
In three easy steps, interested applicants just need to fill out the online registration form, upload their songs, which must not be longer than four minutes, and submit their entry.
“Himig Handog P-POP Love Songs” also accepts songs that are composed by a maximum of three individual composers/lyricists, as long as an individual composer’s entry do not exceed two entries.
Songs may be written in Filipino, English or Taglish, and in any popular music genre or a fusion of known genres.
Last year, the original Filipino love song “Mahal Ka o Mahal Ako,” interpreted by KZ Tandingan and written by Edwin Marollano, won the P1 million grand prize and a trophy designed by renowned sculptor Michael Cacnio.
Now on its seventh year, “Himig Handog” continues to scour for brilliant Filipino songwriters who produce exceptional OPM love songs that can turn out to be the next set of OPM classics. Some of the OPM hit entries throughout the years are “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,” “Hanggang,” “Scared to Death,” “Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat,” and “Simpleng Tulad Mo.”
