Cherie Gil claims that her famous line in "Bituing Walang Ningning" is her intellectual property.
In the 1985 blockbuster movie from Viva Films, Cherie played Lavinia Arguelles, the character who said the famous line "You're nothing but a second rate, trying hard, copycat."
And the award-winning actress wants "Bituing Walang Ningning, The Musical" to stop using the line which she says came from her.
The musical's producers, Viva and Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila, received a Cease and Desist Letter from Atty. Lorna Kapunan, the actress' legal counsel, citing that the actress wants the musical to stop using the said famous line.
Meanwhile, the movie's director Emmanuel Borlaza, says that the line came from him and he is willing to testify for Viva.
"Bituing Walang Ningning" is originally a comics novel by Nerissa Cabral. Orlando Nadres wrote the screenplay.
