Broadcast journalist Karen Davila reveals the story of Carmen Tolentino, a former fish vendor who, through skill and patience, created her own special tocino recipe that became well patronized.
The MV Dona Paz tragedy greatly affected the livelihood of the fishing communities in Lipa, Batangas. Thus, Carmen had to settle for hotdogs and tocino to sell. She began her business by producing five kilos of tocino at her own home, then eventually supplied 100 kilos after she started receiving a lot of orders.
In 2006, Carmen’s Foods finally opened its own factory that now processes 5,000 kilos of meat a day.
While she only used to sell only hotdog and tocino, now her company manufactures processed food items such as sausages, skinless chicken, luncheon ham, and burger patties.
In “My Idol’s Puhunan,” Karen features the business of former “Ang TV” star Paula Peralejo, who, driven by her love for traveling and discovering new places, put up her own travel agency with a capital of P100,000.
Doris Bigornia, meanwhile, presents tomorrow (Mar 11) in “Mutya ng Masa” the inspiring story of a parent’s love for her children. Doris will fulfill the wish of Aling Anita and her aging husband, whose only wish is to provide each of their three blind children with braille materials to help them with their schooling.
