Azkals include Phil and James Younghusband in training camp for Suzuki Cup

The Philippine Azkals recently won the Peace Cup organized by the Philippine Football Federation. The said tournament, however, didn’t have the siblings Phil and James Younghusband in the national team roster. Talks has it that the brothers are having issues with the team regarding their off-pitch duties.

And while some fans say that it would be hard to win without the Younghusbands, the team won the Peace Cup - their first title victory “ending a 99-year championship drought for Philippine football.”

Good news to Phil, James, and their fans, though, because as the Azkals start training in Middle East this Sunday, “the management has decided to include Phil and James Younghusband” in the 10-day training camp that “includes friendly matches with Bahrain (Oct. 12) and Kuwait (Oct. 16).” It is the team’s final stage of preparations for the Suzuki Cup in November.

Here’s the official statement of Azkals manager Dan Palami titled “Team Work Works” that speak of their recent victory, their training camp, and the Younghusband siblings:

TEAM WORK WORKS
Statement from Dan Palami

Following the Azkals' recent title victory at the Peace Cup, we start our training camp in the Middle East this coming Sunday. We are still in high spirits, emboldened by the support from our countrymen who share our pride and joy after ending a 99-year championship drought for Philippine football.

Despite this unprecedented feat, we are well aware that we still have so much work to do. We want to build on the success of our title victory and gleam from it an important lesson that was most evident in the Azkals’ winning form: TEAMWORK WORKS!

We keep this in mind as we move to the final stage of preparations for the Suzuki Cup in November. Our intensive homestretch work for the 10-day training camp includes friendly matches with Bahrain (Oct. 12) and Kuwait (Oct. 16).

After careful consideration, the management has decided to include Phil and James Younghusband in this training camp. Both siblings remain assets to the Azkals and remain part of the team. The training camp should be a good venue to hone a stronger team with an even better chemistry on the pitch.

As a team, we take this time to bridge differences as we work towards a common goal: bringing honor and pride to the country.
