Jessica Sanchez Gets Standing O; Has Swag, Says J Lo

Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez got standing ovation in her rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s Love You I Do during American Idol 11 Top 12 Girls performance night.

And Jessica wowed not just the audience but the three judges as well. Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler all stood after the 16-year-old sang.

They were all praises for the belter saying that her voice is the one to be reckoned with in the season. Her confidence also didn’t go unnoticed with J Lo praising her “swag, that attitude, those moves, the punctuation that you put with your body on the ends of your phrases and your notes and everything… the whole thing is just really, really so beyond your years. It’s crazy!”

Since the auditions, Jessica has been making her mark as one of the best this season. I just hope she gets consistent because this being an early favorite thing reminds me of another Filipina in season 7, Ramielle Malubay, who got so praised during the top 24 performance but failed in her succeeding efforts to win the judges’ praises.

Let’s also hope that Jessica will not be given a bad song by the ones in charge of song choice lists because some of the times, the fate of the contestant depends on the song.

Based on her performance last night, though, Jessica really has a chance on winning this season. I even watched the YouTube video of her Love You I Do rendition so many times already. Really good vocals, and a natural performer. Such swag!
