The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2015, on its ninth day, has posted a gross earning of P834 million from its eight official entries. That's from December 25, 2015 to January 2, 2016, just five days short of its scheduled two-week run.
The MMFF 2015 entries had a boost in ticket sales during the New Year holiday. The reported gross as of Dec. 31 was P640M, with only P18M added from the previous day's gross (P622M). Come Jan. 1, however, P97M was added to the gross (P737M), as well as on Jan. 2 (P834M) which was the first Saturday of the year.
If the festival earned the same amount on Sunday (Jan. 3) and with four more days to go, MMFF 2015 is well on its way to equaling (if not surpassing) the P1.014 billion gross it made in 2014.
But then the number of moviegoers are expected to decline by Jan. 4 (Monday) as Christmas season ends and (almost) everyone goes back to work/school.
Meanwhile, the four top grossing films as of Jan. 2 were still (in random order) "My Bebe Love," "Beauty and the Bestie," "Haunted Mansion" and "Walang Forever."
The individual gross for each film will be released after the festival's two-week run (Jan. 7).
