In the process of talking about how she defended her friend Nikki Gil from online bashers regarding the issue of virginity, Iya Villania revealed that she was herself a virgin when she married Drew Arellano in February 2014.
“You know, I don’t look down upon other girls who practice [premarital sex]. It doesn’t make you less of a person. Kanya-kanya namang values ‘yan, e. But, personally, I do believe that one should not practice pre-marital sex,” Iya said during a press conference for an endorsement, as quoted by pep.ph.
When asked if she herself practiced the "no premarital sex rule," Iya said, "Yes!"
She and Drew were a couple for ten long years before tying the knot. The couple are indeed admirable for being able to hold it and for not giving in to temptations.
"It’s actually nakakatawa. Mas nakakabilib si Drew!” she said, laughing.
She also added that it was easy for her, or for other girls who hasn't experienced anything, to wait until they are married because they don't know what they are missing out on.
With her decision to wait, she was also able to prove that Drew really loves her.
“Doon ko naman na-confirm na mahal niya talaga ako. He was very patient," she said.
But did he ever look for in other girls what she didn't want to give him before marriage?
"Well, nasa values din naman ng lalaki yun, e. Actually, he’s Catholic. It’s really up to the person. It really boils down to the values," she said.
She added, however, that their relationship was not perfect.
"Sa ten years of being together, there were times na we made mistakes. But, you know, that’s what it is to be a person. I mean, no one had never made mistakes.”
