The veteran actor was diagnosed with the illness two years ago. It was only last June that he found out it was already terminal.
His family kept Mark's illness a secret upon his request.
According to a joint statement released by his family, Mark died in the company of his family members.
He is survived by his wife, Maricar, and their daughter Stephanie Cheri, plus Mark's five other children from previous relationships that include actors Gabby Eigenmann, Sid Lucero, Max Eigenmann, and Andi Eigenmann.
Mark is the son of actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, and the brother of Cheri Gil and Michael De Mesa.
Mark was last seen on TV as the father of Maja Salvador in "The Legal Wife" which was aired on ABS-CBN from January to June of this year.
