ABS-CBN summoned by MTRCB over 'PBB All In' nude painting challenge

The "Pinoy Big Brother All In" episode last June 4 and 5 where "Kuya" challenged housemate Jayme Jalandoni to pose nude for a painting as part of their weekly task is now being criticized.

For one, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) had earlier called on the attention of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to review the said episode.

In the challenge, Jayme, a devoted Christian housemate, was asked if she would pose nude for a painting for charity. The registered nurse hesitated at first, saying she doesn't want to go nude. But Big Brother told her the consequences if she would say no - their possible failure in their weekly task, plus they wouldn't be able to help the painter and his advocacy. He then gave her time to think.

After praying and hearing fellow housemate Michele Gumabao's point of view about nude paintings, Jayme said yes to the challenge. However, after hearing the recorded voice of her father saying her answer should be no, the 23-year-old nurse changed her mind.

Meanwhile, Senator Nancy Binay said the reality show had been insensitive in the challenge.

"Housemates give their blind trust to Kuya. The PBB Management should be sensitive when it comes to faith, ethnicity and morality. Tumanggi na si Jayme dahil ito ay labag sa kanyang paniniwala at sa tingin niya ay mababastos siya... dapat noon pa lang, na-realize na ni Kuya na may mali sa challenge na ito," Binay said.

The senator also added that the contestants, especially the female housemates, "should be accorded with respect without compromising their dignity and their rights as women."

Another lady senator, Pia Cayetano, also expressed her dismay over the challenge.

"This is an assault to the dignity of the women housemates. Asking a woman to consider posing nude in such a situation - where her acceptance to perform the challenge is made in exchange for points or benefits for herself or her housemates - is tantamount to coercion," Cayetano said.

She added that the show should know its limits and "should be conscious of the rights of the housemates."

"I agree with the position of the Philippine Commission on Women, which first raised this issue, that there is nothing wrong about women who pose nude for art, as long as the decision is voluntary. Clearly this was not the case with housemate Jayme Jalandoni, who was under pressure to follow the instructions of Kuya in order not to be meted sanctions. To make things worse, the bargaining between Jayme and Kuya happened on national television in full view of the public," she said.

On Monday, MTRCB posted on Twitter, calling ABS-CBN to a Mandatory Conference on June 11 regarding the matter.
The Kapamilya Network, in a statement released through Bong Osorio, said they will cooperate and attend the said conference.

“We have received the invitation from MTRCB. We will cooperate and attend the conference on June 11,” the statement said.
