Ateneo beats UST in UAAP 75 championship, completes 5-peat

Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles was declared champion of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 75 men’s senior basketball after defeating the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers with a score of 65-62.

It was a tight game with both teams alternately leading, locking the score at 29-29 at the end of first half.

Ateneo now completes the 5-peat, or winning 5 consecutive times in the men’s senior basketball of UAAP, making Norman Black one of the two elite coaches who successfully had a 5-peat. The other one was Baby Dalupan.

Nico Salva of ADMU was hailed as the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season.

Meanwhile, Bobby Parks of National University (NU) Bulldogs was declared the season’s Most Valuable Player. He had a per game average of 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.3 blocks and 3.9 turnovers.

De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers’ Jeron Alvin Teng was the Rookie of the Year. He had a per game average of 16.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.1 steals, 0.4 blocks and 2.4 turnovers.

Both Parks and Teng were in the Mythical Five with Greg Slaughter of ADMU (per game average: 14.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.1 steals, 2.3 blocks, 3 turnovers); Terrence Romeo of Far Eastern University (FEU) (per game average: 18.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.2 blocks, 2.4 turnovers); and Karim Abdul of UST (per game average: 16.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.5 steals, 2 blocks, 3.1 turnovers).

  • RCBC Savings Bank Game Changing Player of the Season: Gregory William Slaughter (ADMU)
