The Adamson University (AdU) Pep Squad was named champion at the 2017 UAAP Cheerdance Competition (CDC), preventing National University from achieving a 5-peat.
The AdU Pep Squad bested the other seven universities with their 80s-themed choreography, claiming their first-ever UAAP cheerdance championship.
They got bronze last year and was just aiming at keeping the podium this year. They weren't expecting to get their first win.
And the win is sweeter when it's not expected, indeed.
The AdU Pep Squad now has 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in their UAAP Cheerdance Competition medal tally.
Getting 2nd place this year was the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Salinggawi Dance Troupe. It's the team's 6th silver. Their last championship was in 2006 when they got their 8th gold.
Third place was University of the East (UE) Pep Squad. It's their 1st bronze and 1st podium since 2002 when the team won silver. They are yet to get their 1st championship.
Meanwhile, it was the Far Eastern University (FEU) Cheering Squad that won in the Group Stunts Competition. Second place went to Adamson and third place, UP Pep Squad.
