According to the announcement made by Warner Bros, British actor Henry Cavill will play Man of Steel in the new Superman movie scheduled for 2012.
But this is a long-awaited turn. He was supposed to do the last Superman movie but the shuffling of directors resulted in his replacement, thus, Brandon Routh. He was cast in director McG’s version of the movie but when Bryan Singer took the job, they cast another actor. But the McG and Singer versions were two different movies that he felt he still got the role, only the movie didn’t happen.
He was also rumored to be on the shortlist of actors to play Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman and the lead in the Green Lantern series. But then the role of the caped crusader went to another British actor Christian Bale and Green Lantern to Ryan Reynolds.
Such big roles to lose, right? But here’s the biggest: he was Twilight’s author Stephanie Meyer’s first choice to portray the role of Edward Cullen. But then there were some delays in filming the movie and by the time they were about to, Henry didn’t look right (read: young) for the role anymore.
Henry also auditioned for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, but the role went to Daniel Craig.
Finally, though, we will see him wearing the crimson cape on 2012. But before that, we can’t wait to see his promotional pics wearing the Superman costume.
