I was able to watch the last 2 weeks of GMA-7’s Beauty Queen. As with all the GMA dramas, it has poor sound scoring. But Beauty Queen has a strong storyline that it got me glued until its last episode.
Maita (Iza Calzado) won the title, the scepter exploded but Marvin Agustin’s character was able to grab it from Maita and threw it away in the nick of time, and then Dorcas (Katrina Halili) hostaged Maita.
I couldn’t help but wonder how the hostage-taking scene would have been executed if it had been with a different director and more convincing actors. It was like Maita almost willingly went with her hostage taker when the gun wasn’t even pointed half of the time.
And then there’s that supposed-to-be big scene where Dorcas shot Marc (TJ Trinidad) and the police shot Dorcas. Maita ran to TJ who was lying on the ground and to our surprise, she asked “Ano’ng nangyari sa ‘yo?” Hey Maita, he was shot!
The funniest thing, though, also happened in that scene also. Maita was on Marc’s side but she was just there, looking instead at the lifeless body of Dorcas a few feet away from them. And since perhaps the scene required Marc, who was lying there because he was shot, to be cradled by Maita, and Maita wasn’t doing anything to cradle Marc, Marc himself moved to position his body on Maita’s lap. LoL!
