Charice Gives a Taste of "Fingerprint"

Charice Pempengco gave a preview of her upcoming single, "Fingerprint" during the Oscar After Party at Mr. Chow last February 22, 2009. In an introduction, David Foster said that Charice would be one of the biggest stars next year.

Watch Charice sing "Fingerprint." The tape skipped twice, though, making them cut the performance. I guess it was intentional. They don't want to give us the whole song just yet.

Is Jake Cuenca Courting Melissa Ricks?

Showbiz News Ngayon reports that Jake Cuenca is allegedly courting Melissa Ricks. SNN got the chance to interview Melissa in the press conference for the upcoming weekly television series Your Song Presents: Underage, where the young actress (and Leighton Meester look-a-like) won't confirm nor deny the rumor. She admits, though, that Jake personally sends flowers and food to her condo unit, but leaves them at the reception. He hasn't really gone straight up to her door.

On the other hand, Jake Cuenca admits sending flowers and food but says it's just a friendly gesture on his part.

Underage, which starts March 1, is an adaption of the 80's teen flick which starred Dina Bonnevie, Maricel Soriano, and Snooky Serna. Melissa will play the role done by Dina while Empress Shuck and Lauren Young will do the part of Maricel and Snooky.

Matt Evans will be, yet again, Melissa's loveteam. Rafael Rosell will be Empress's love interest and AJ Perez for Lauren. Valene Montenegro, William Lorenzo and Sylvia Sanchez are also in the cast.

The movie version was sexy, will the television version be as sexier? Definitely not, considering that Your Song Presents airs Sunday afternoon right after ASAP 09.

Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert Made It To American Idol 8's Top 12

Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen, and Adam Lambert made it through to the next round - Top 12. Two of my American Idol 8 favorites went through but I don't know about Kris Allen. I think Jesse Langseth, Megan Corkrey or Jasmine Murray is more deserving of the slot.

Good looks can really take you far.

American Idol 8: Top 36 Nick Mitchell's "And I Am Telling You"

American Idol 8 Top 36 contestant Nick Mitchell is so funny we were laughing all throughout his performance. His voice wasn't bad. It's just that he should be singing in comedy bars rather than the Idol stage.

Whatever happens to this guy, we wish him good luck.

Watch Nick Mitchell do his very own funny version of "And I Am Telling You."

American Idol 8: Top 36 Megan Corkrey's "Put Your Records On"

I kinda like Megan Corkrey's version of "Put Your Records On." A good song choice, the voice unique and jazzy, she's pretty. By the way, Megan, 23, has a three-year-old son who keeps her inspired. I really, really hope she gets through.

Watch her very good performance of "Put Your Records On."

American Idol 8: Top 36 Matt Breitzke's "If You Can Only See"

Matt Breitzke's performance was another case of wrong song choice. The American Idol 8 Top 36 was just purely forgettable. He loved the song but I just wish he picked a better song based on his vocal quality and not on his sentiments.

Here's his version of "If You Can Only See."

American Idol 8: Top 36 Kai Kalama's "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted"

I must say that American Idol 8 Top 36 contestant Kai Kalama was a lot better during the Hollywood week than last night. I was so sad for his mom. Hope Kai does better during the wildcard competition.

Here's Kai Kalama with his rendition of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted."

American Idol 8: Top 36 Jeanine Vailes' "This Love"

Jeanine Vailes version of Maroon 5's "This Love" was so overdone it sounded so trying hard. The American Idol 8 judges joined forces in saying that it was pitchy and just all over the place. At least they found quite a number of beautiful things in her... physically.

Watch Jeanin Vailes sing Maroon 5's "This Love."

American Idol 8: Top 36 Kris Allen's "Man in the Mirror"

American Idol 8 Top 36 contestant Kris Allen sang Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" on the round 2 of the semifinal rounds. He's so good-looking that even Simon Cowell agreed the "chicks" would be voting for him.

It's just bad he can't dance when he should be dancing with his choice of song. With Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Jesse Langseth, and Jasmine Murray to choose from, I don't think he's getting through to the Top 12 (at least this week).

Watch Kris Allen's version of "Man in the Mirror" below:

Watch American Idol 8 Jesse Langseth Sing "Bette Davies Eyes"

American Idol Season 8 Top 36 contestant Jesse Langseth seem to deserve staying in the show. The controversial contestant has lately caused a buzz in the Idol scene due to being an "ex-con," though not as bad as the buzz caused by Joanna Pacitti which caused her expulsion from the Top 36.

Watch Jesse Langseth sing her version of Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes."

Dr. Manny Calayan in Support of Boy Abunda

Dr. Manny Calayan is in full support of his endorser, Boy Abunda, with regards to the comment made by Dr. Belo over Showbiz Central last Sunday.

PEP reports this statement issued by Dr. Calayan:

"We are behind Boy Abunda, 101 percent. We understand his feelings and reactions to the ridiculing and insulting remarks he sustained from Dra. Belo. Promoting one's business or services by stepping on someone was uncalled for. Besides, Dingdong Dantes used to be our endorser and part of what he has become came from our services, and so did other of her big named endorsers: Claudine Barretto, Ruffa Gutierrez, and Katrina Halili.

"There's a simple reason for our 'TO C TO BELIEVE' campaign and that's more about inner beauty that's from a good and sincere heart like Boy Abunda, which transcends outward a person's life and touches other people's lives. And through that inner beauty, we see and believe in the beauty of other people and we believe in their goodness! We accept whoever you are, we make you feel good. That's the Calayan experience and that's TO 'C' IS TO BELIEVE!"

American Idol's Second Batch of Twelve

The second group of twelve semi-finalists will perform Wednesday to give way to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address. The two-hour long performance night will be done Wednesday and the results night will be Thursday.

The second group of twelve includes Kris Allen, Matt Breitzke, Megan Joy Corkrey, Matt Giraud, Mishavonna Henson, Allison Iraheta, Kai Kalama, Adam Lambert, Jesse Langseth, Nick Mitchell, Jasmine Murray and Jeanine Vailes. We will then know on Thursday who will advance to the top twelve and join Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver and Danny Gokey who made it last week.

Geoff Eigenmann on "Obra"

Geoff Eigenmann, son of respected actors Michael de Mesa and Gina Alajar, is reported to be transferring networks - from ABS-CBN to GMA 7. According to reports, GMA included Geoff in the cast of Obra's second season, in replacement for JC De Vera who, in turn, is rumored to transfer to ABS-CBN.

Also in Obra's cast are Marvin Agustin, Maxene Magalona, and Bianca King.

Geoff Eigenmann is so much identified with ABS-CBN, especially after being paired-up with Heart Evangelista (who is also in GMA now) in the 2004 hit television series, "Hiram." He is also a VJ in the ABS-CBN music channel, Myx.

The good-looking actor, though, hasn't been that much visible on television lately, not even ASAP. Perhaps the move is a must.

Boy Abunda Reacts on Dr. Vicky Belo's Showbiz Central Interview

Boy Abunda was offended by the comment made by Dr. Vicky Belo in an interview by Mo Twister on GMA 7's Showbiz Central last Sunday, February 22, 2009.

It was actually a comment made when she was asked about the industry of cosmetic surgery, on how stiff it's getting and the competition actually getting to as far as the number of celebrity endorsers they have. Mo asked, "How do you feel about this the 'I have these stars, you have these stars. 'Yong celebrities ko mas maganda sa celebrities mo.' I mean, that whole competition."

Dr. Vicky Belo was quoted as saying "...if you want to look like Boy Abunda, go to Calayan. But if you like to look like Dingdong Dantes and Piolo Pascual, come to Belo."

Dr. Belo actually added that it's just a joke but also said, "...Boy is the main endorser of Calayan, we know that right?"

And yes, Boy Abunda is an endorser of Calayan and Dingdong and Piolo is Belo's. Perhaps we can just give Dr. Belo the benefit of the doubt. After all, what she said is just a fact.

Watch Dr. Vicky Belo's Showbiz Central interview below:

And here's Boy Abunda's statement in SNN Monday night, February 23, 2009.

Ai-Ai delas Alas Groped Piolo Pascual

The Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas did her "habit" once again, this time at the Pop Idol's concert last Saturday, February 21, 2009.

Ai-Ai is actually known for "touching" her male co-star's private part during her live comedy concerts. Her audience usually find it funny, causing a lot of laughter in her shows.

Little did everyone know that she'd do it in the Pop Idol's concert where she was a guest. And this time, Piolo Pascual was her target. She actually didn't stop until she succeeded in touching the hunk's "member."

But then again, I guess it was a pre-planned thing to create some buzz.

Now, don't you wish you were Ai-Ai? Watch the scene below.

Best Supporting Actor Heath Ledger's Family's Acceptance Speech

Heath Ledger posthumously won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award in the 81st Oscars. He won for his brilliant performance of The Joker in the movie "The Dark Knight."

Heath's parents Kim and Sally Ledger with his sister Kate Ledger accepted the award in behalf of Heath's daughter, Matilda.

Best Actress Kate Winslet's Acceptance Speech

Stephen Daldry's "The Reader" only won one award at the recent Oscars, but it's a very good one, indeed. Kate Winslet who played Hanna Schmitz, a former SS prison guard on trial for war crimes, won Best Actress. It's her first Oscar after being nominated five times. She already holds an Oscar record for having had five nominations before reaching the age of thirty-two. Winslet is now thirty-three.

Kate Winslet bested other heavy weights including the Oscar veteran Meryl Streep who has had fifteen nominations and two wins.

Here's Kate Winslet's acceptance speech:

Jake Cuenca's Car Stoned

"Tayong Dalawa" star Jake Cuenca says he is clueless as to who stoned his Ford Expedition which was parked in front of his house 4 am Monday. He even considers the possibility that it was an accident because, as he says, he doesn't know anyone who hates him.

A gunshot hole in the fender also added to the damage. Three slugs from a 45-caliber pistol was found at the scene.

Jake won't give any more details regarding the matter but he was said to have given the police his statement.

Sherlock and Watson, Guy Ritchie Style

Sherlock Holmes is reportedly portrayed as a gay detective in Guy Ritchie's movie adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous characters, Sherlock and Watson.

So they're more than roommates who also happen to enjoy wrestling matches and share a bed!

I can see Sir Arthur Conan Doyle turning in his grave.

After allegedly attacking Rihanna, many believe Chris Brown's music career would be hard to save. But thanks to Saturday Night Live. They would still like to have Chris Brown on their show despite the controversy.

Kenan Thompson, a regular of the show, says they don't care about scandals. What they care about what would bring them high ratings.

Chris Brown, 19, was arrested February 8 for criminal threats. He posted $50,000 bail and was released. More charges may be filed after the case is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

The R&B singer is reported to be due in court March 5.

Kate Winslet on the Cover of Time

Kate Winslet graces the cover of Time. The Oscar nominee for "The Reader" says she's taking some time out from getting nude in films. She says she doesn't want to become 'that actress who always gets her kit off.'

Being Oscar-nominated in a number of times, Kate surely can act and should be remembered not by undressing in the movies but by her acting prowess.

RCA Dropped Clay Aiken

Clay Aiken has recently been dropped by his label, RCA. The most successful male American Idol contestant and the most successful runner-up was only one of the American Idol contestants that has been dropped by RCA. In the previous months, Blake Lewis, Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, and Ruben Studdard also suffered the same fate.

Is RCA suddenly became against American Idol? Just asking...

Binibining Pilipinas 2009 Candidates

Presenting the Bb. Pilipinas 2009 candidates. Most notable are contestants number 3 Richell Angalot (GMA's Rich Asuncion), number 10 Priscilla Navidad (of PBB Teen Edition Plus), and number 24 Abigail Lesley Cruz (model, Bb. Pilipinas 2007 2nd runner-up, and Paolo Bediones' girlfriend). And if you happen to know Aiko Climaco of Wowowee's ASF Dancers, she's contestant number 8, Cheryl Oliveros.

By joining again, Abby Cruz makes the point that it's not that bad to try all over again. Not contented with her 2nd runner-up finish in the 2007 pageant, would she be able to wear a crown this year?

Pinoy Fear Factor Finale

A lot of Pinoy Fear Factor fans were saddened by the elimination of Manuel Chua. But from then on, many have rooted for Janna Dominguez. Even more so when the viewers were somewhat mislead by the rumors that Janna was indeed the winner.

Jommy, on the other hand, had been the "kontrabida" in the said reality show. Even most of the "participantes" didn't like the rough-mannered model. But what's meant to be, will meant to be. Last night, Jommy Teotico was declared the winner of Pinoy Fear Factor: Argentina, South America, besting 11 other "participantes" which was chosen from thousands of hopefuls.

Katharine McPhee in a New Movie

Photobucket

Seems like American Idol Season 5 runner-up, Katharine McPhee, is heading for the movie stardom. She has been cast in a 2010-due movie entitled Wedlock, co-starring with  Dave Annable (of Brothers and Sisters).

Wedlock is said to be a romantic comedy about a pet photographer who gets tangled up with a mobster and his daughter (McPhee). The photog and the daughter are forced to marry and go on a honeymoon… and the story goes from there.

Katharine already played small parts in a few movies but this one is her first starring role.

American Idol 8 “Karaoke Night”

Photobucket

The 36 contestants are now divided into 3 groups of 12. The first group performed and I must say it’s a karaoke night indeed. Aside from Alexis Grace and the last to sing Danny Gokey, everyone else were forgettable. Tatiana doing Whitney Houston’s Saving All My Love For You was a disaster, as well as Stephen Fowler’s version of Michael Jackson’s I Wanna Rock With You.

What saddened me was Anoop Desai’s performance. He sang Monica’s Angel of Mine and was also terrible. I agree with Simon on the fact that what would save Anoop would be his likeability factor.

Best performance of the night for me was Danny Gokey with Mariah Carey’s Hero. He was so sure of himself, not to mention he sounded great. The song choice was so right for him and even the arrangement was perfect.

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron to Present at the Oscars

High School Musical (and off screen) sweethearts Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron will be presenting at the Oscars as a couple.

Likewise, Twilight hottie Robert Pattinson has been confirmed to present. Kristen Stewart is also a presenter but it’s still unclear wether they’ll be onstage as a couple like the HSM  stars.

“When I Met You” Earns P25 M on Valentine’s Day Alone

Photobucket

The GMA Films-Regal Entertainment movie When I Met You reportedly made P25 million on Valentine’s Day alone. Box Office Mojo also reports that the Richard-KC starrer earned $686,668 (about P32.5 million) on the first 5 days of its showing, i.e. from February 11 to 15, 2009.

We can say that this second movie of Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion is definitely a success. Their first one (Star Cinema’s For the First Time) did well in the box-office earning $2,850,133 throughout its run.

Would When I Met You surpass For the First Time’s success? And coming from 2 different networks, would this be the love team’s last movie together?

Charice to Perform at the Oscars' After-Party

Charice Pempengco denied the rumors that Oprah Winfrey is adopting her. What she did confirm is her performance in the after-party of the prestigious Oscars where she will once again sing alongside the biggest singers in Hollywood.

Charice was recently named as one of the "shining stars of 2009" by Liz Smith in Fox News' Lips and Ears. Other predicted celebrities to shine are Twilight's Robert Pattinson, Kate Winslet, and George Clooney.

The teen singer is also doing an album for the Warner label and is going to have a show in Las Vegas with David Foster this coming May. It was also reported that a talent show is being planned out for Charice.

Charice reportedly bought seven apartments - one for her grandmother, one for her family, and the others to be rented out. Coming from a poor family, the "most talented girl" is investing her money wisely.
