Melai impersonates Rihanna in 'Your Face Sounds Familiar'

After weeks of performances and openly wishing she would get to impersonate Rihanna, Melai Cantiveros will finally give her dream performance as the pop superstar in the top-rating “Your Face Sounds Familiar” this weekend (April 25 and 26).

Jolina as Manny Pacquiao, Edgar Allan as Toni Gonzaga, Tutti Caringal as Steven Tyler, Nyoy Volante as Apl.de.ap, Melai as Cyndi Lauper, Maxene as Vhong Navarro, Karla as Mariah Carey, Jay-R as Tom Jones

“My husband says I look like Rihanna. I often perform Rihanna songs in mall shows. I really feel like I’m Rihanna. Viewers should watch out for my transformation,” said Melai, who idolizes the Barbadian singer.

She also shared that she finds it difficult to act serious when she performs, but is definitely happy when she sees the audience laugh.

“When I perform I don’t look at the audience because I don’t want to lose my focus. When they laugh, I just think that I’m making them happy. I’m grateful to have been given the chance to bring happiness to people,” Melai added.

Melai is not the only celebrity performer who will be copying her idol this weekend. Maxene Magalona will impersonate no other than her father, Master Rapper Francis Magalona, while Jay-R will give her first female performance as Beyonce. Other must-watch performances include Nyoy Volante as Reyna ng Kundiman Sylvia La Torre, Jolina Magdangal as Queen of Soul Jaya, Tutti Caringal as Lou Bega, Karla Estrada as Dulce, and Edgar Allan Guzman as Ed Sheeran.

“Your Face’s” non-stop surprises keep Filipino viewers tune in to the program, as it became the most watched TV program nationwide last weekend, according to data from Kantar Media. It hit a national TV rating of 27.4% last Saturday (April 18) versus its rival program on GMA, “Celebrity Bluff” (18.95%). “Your Face” also recorded a national TV rating of 29% last Sunday (April 19), beating “Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho” (18.72%).
