Buboy Villar stars as the young Manny Pacquiao in the upcoming movie, "Kid Kulafu," which is about the Filipino boxing champion's humble beginnings.
As the trailer says, you don't really know Pacquiao until you see this movie which opens in cinemas April 15, 2015, just a couple of weeks before the Pinoy pride's fight with American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Here's the movie's trailer:
We usually see Buboy in funny, supporting roles on GMA-7. Currently, he is in the cast of the afternoon series "Half Sisters" as one of the friends of the main character. And who can forget that spaghetti sauce commercial he did as a kid?
He got the lead role in "Kid Kulafu," though, which can be considered his biggest break so far. Thanks to director Paul Soriano who saw his potentials.
According to the director, Buboy didn't know he was auditioning for a Pacquiao role until he got the part.
Buboy was also commended for his hard work. Two months before they start shooting, the young actor was already working with the movie's fight instructor to learn how to move like Pacquiao.
Also in the cast of the movie are Alessandra de Rossi as Pacquiao's mother, and Cesar Montano as the uncle who introduced Pacquiao to boxing and named him Kid Kulafu.
Produced by Ten17, "Kid Kulafu" is distributed by Star Cinema.
