The theme for tonight's Celebrity Duets was "Music Icons." The UP PEP Squad did the opening number afterwhich, Regine Velasquez hinted that someone's backing out of the competition. We were kinda wishing it's Mikaela Bilbao because her singing and dancing really make us sick.
Akihiro Sato, Jomari Yllana, and Joel Cruz were the first batch to sing.
Ricky Martin was Akihiro's music icon inspiration. He sang La Vida Loca with Geoff Taylor, the winner of the recently-concluded Are You the Next Big Star? which was also hosted by Regine Velasquez. Judge Danny Tan noted that Akihiro was more relaxed and therefore, delivered his song better.
Aerosmith was the music icon of Jomari who sang I Don't Wanna Miss Thing with Aia of Imago. Unlike before, he seemed to open his mouth more while singing.
Joel Cruz sang My Heart Will Go On with Vernie Varga. His music icon: Celine Dion. Tessa Prieto-Valdez said she enjoyed his performance.
Bonnie Tyler's Hero was Gina Alajar's piece. Raechelle Alejandro sang with her. Tessa had fun watching her with all the scantily clad men as props. Niccolo Cosme's inspiration was Madonna. He sang the pop queen's Like a Prayer with Tuesday Vargas. Danny Tan said Nicolo started and ended the song off [key], although the middle part was okay. The judge also advised Nicolo not to be so serious and to have more fun while performing.
Nonito Donaire did an R&B number with Brenan Espartinez. He was praised with "that was the complete number yet" by judge Freddie Santos.
Lea Salonga was Maxi Cinco's inspiration as he did I Am But a Small Voice with Eat Bulaga's Wally. "Natumbok mo," were Danny Tan's words of praise to the costume designer. According to the judge, it was the best for the night together with Nonito's performance.
Meanwhile, we don't have to bear with her every Saturday because Mikaela bailed out of the competition, and it was because her doctor advised her so. Oh well, she still sang her swan song, Michael Jackson's Never Can Say Goodbye with The Opera.
The question is, though, if Mikaela didn't decide to back out, who could have been evicted? Could it have also been her?
And since the elimination wasn't based on the text votes, Celebrity Duets for a change announced the Top 3 this time (instead of the usual bottom 3). The Top 3 according to the text votes received were Jomari Yllana, Gina Alajar, and Joel Cruz.
