Christian on Uberture

Christian Alvear guested on Uberture yesterday. When asked on who he thought would be the star scholar, he immediately said Laarni's name. Reason: because she can sing any type of song.

About his crushes inside the academy, Christian said it's still Apple and Liezel. Billy also asked Christian about this controversial moment when he was singing his swan song during the 6th gala night and the scholars seem not to notice him at all. They just kept on smiling and waving to the audience, as if they didn't mind if he left at all. This had also become an issue with Direk Joey, but Christian faced it with maturity, saying that perhaps the scholars just felt that they had to wave back to the fans waving at them.

That reminds me of Bea's eviction. They were all hugging her and crying on stage.

Showdown

Every gala night, honorary scholar Poy Palma will challenge a singer inside the academy. This Saturday, she will challenge Laarni Losala with the song And I Am Telling You from Dreamgirls.

On other notes, the scholars have been doing a lot of things inside the academy - from Direk Joey's media class to learning the new compositions of the headmaster Ryan Cayabyab.

The following are the lyrics of the songs as shown on tv.

Title: Bakit Ganyan?
Music By: Ryan Cayabyab
Lyrics By: Jose Javier Reyes
Interpreted by: Bunny Malunda

Mga mga taong dadaanin ka sa kilig
May mahilig magdadrama at may nagpapasweet
May dumedeadma pa at kunwari'y masungit.

Akala ko pa naman kung ako'y ma-iinlab
Parang eksena na sa sineng may kilig at kintab
Parang koreanobelang sa Pilipino dinub
Naglalambingan sa Paris o saan man mapadpad.

Pero bakit ganyan bakit ganito
Hanggang ngayon tinatanong ko
Pag-ibig na ba ang feeling na 'to
Habang umiinom ng gulaman at sago.

Title: Hero
Music By: Ryan Cayabyab
Lyrics By: Jose Javier Reyes
Interpreted By: Hansen Nichols

You make it sound so simple now
You take my hand and ask me to go
You dare me to be someone I don't know
You ask me for courage I can't show.

Title: Magpakatotoo
Music By: Ryan Cayabyab
Lyrics By: Jose Javier Reyes
Interpreted By: Cris Pastor

Hoy, hoy teka muna ingat ka nga d'yan
Huwag mo akong daanin sa yabang
Bumenta na ang mga diskarteng ganyan
Kaya cool ka at ako'y naaangasan.

'Di ko kailangan ang isang superhero
Maging ka-partner ni Richard o Piolo
Okay bang tayo ay magpakatotoo
Kung sino kang talaga 'yan pakita mo.

'Di ko kailangan date sa Fort Bonifacio
Mag embassy at serendra pa tayo
Kahit sago't gulaman masaya na ako
Basta ba tayo ay magpakatotoo.

Title: Hiding Behind My Feelings
Music and Lyrics By: Ryan Cayabyab
Interpreted By: Liezel Garcia

Liking you and loving you
Is something that I wanna do
But I'm afraid if I told you
You'd turn your back and say shame on you.

So I'd rather hide my feelings
Because I wanna be with you
So I'd rather hide my feelings
And say I love you.

The Mentors' Meeting

With the scholars trimmed down to the top 10, the mentors (Ryan Cayabyab, Direk Joey, Teacher Kitchie and Sir Monet) had a meeting on who among the 10 have problems that they should focus on.

Sir Monet immediately voiced his concern on Bunny's vocal limitations because of her cyst, but Direk Joey countered that by saying that Bunny's improvement is marked from the first time they heard her. He even added that Bunny attracted his attention more than Cris and Liezel during the trio performances. Teacher Kitchie labeled Cris as inconsistent, that sometimes she's okay (with the techniques) and all of a sudden she's not. With Inaki, on the other hand, Teacher Kitchie said that they should be picky on the songs to give him, and proof to it was the headmaster didn't like Inaki's To Where You Are performance last Saturday. Direk Joey said Hansen's voice has limitations, saying "what is really working for him, much like Van, is that he is so loved by the camera."

Laarni, although a great singer, poses as a problem because of her attitude. And I quote Direk Joey as saying, "hindi n'ya nama-maximize 'yong maaari pa n'yang matutunan sa loob dahil nagiging sagabal 'yong kanyang emotional... pagka-volatile n'ya sa emotion. Number two, it also affects the other people inside. But ang biggest concern ko is, number 3 is 'pag nilabas s'ya sa real world I am worried for her kung makakayanan ng emotional strength n'ya yoon."

Teacher Monet seemed to be truthful by saying, "I've seen a marked improvement naman do'n sa behavior [ni Laarni]."

With regards to the other scholars, the headmaster says that although Apple and MIguel are good singers, "hindi nagniningning ang kanilang mga talento." But Teacher Kitchie says Miguel has not just given yet a song that will showcase his singing capability. And with regards to Apple, Direk Joey says Apple is not giving her best and that she should stop trying to be cute.

On who between Van and Miguel is their number 6 (the other being number 5), all of them agreed with Miguel.

Personally Direk Joey's statement about Laarni made me think (about text votes) and gave me qualms about the show. I don't know if I'm right. But if you read the text I quoted him as saying with regards to Laarni's attitude, it's like saying that they have the power to choose who's going to be evicted, disregarding the votes. On the other hand, he might just be talking about expulsion. But is this face-off their way of making sure Laarni would be eventually expelled? I hope not. But then again, we all know that Liezel is the favorite of the two resident judges.

Face-off

The Headmaster's Prestigious List of 10 will do a face-off on Saturday, August 2, 2008. They are divided into 5 pairs wherein they will compete against their partners. The one who will get the lower grade will automatically be part of the bottom 5. So there will be 5 probationary scholars on the 7th gala night. Another sad thing about the face-off are the songs. They can't change what's given to them.

Liezel and Laarni will compete against each other. Liezel was given Beyonce's Listen, while Laarni was given April Boy Regino's 'Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin. Many viewers reacted to this (especially with Laarni's song). Liezel's Listen is a beautiful song - Beyonce, diva, requires vocal gymnastics. Many find it so unfair that Laarni is given a jukebox song that, while quite popular and the tune's easy to sing along to, verges between jologs and novelty.

Online forumers expressed their disbelief, even saying that the 7th gala night is unfair. Many have come to pity Laarni because, according to them, being paired with Liezel is the PDA's way to making sure Laarni would be part of the week's probationary scholars.

The matches are:

Liezel (Beyonce Listen) vs. Laarni (April Boy's 'Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin)

Bugoy (Sponge Cola's Nakapagtataka) vs. Apple (Sister Sledge's We are Family)

Van (Chaka Khan's Through the Fire) vs. Hansen (Enrique Iglesia's Bailamos)

Miguel (Prince's When Doves Cry) vs. Inaki (Meatloaf's I Would Do Anything For Love)

Bunny (Rolling Stones' Satisfaction) vs. Cris (The Weather Girls' It's Raining Men)

This face-off would just mean that if Liezel got a 9.2, Laarni got a 9.1, Bunny got a 7.9, and Cris got a 7.8, Liezel (9.2) and Bunny (7.9) would be saved while Laarni (9.1) and Cris (7.8) would be on probation. Therefore, Bunny having a 7.8 score is saved while Laarni having a 9.1 score is on probation.

As much as the viewers find it unfair, I guess we can do nothing about it. As the old saying goes, "take it, or leave it".

P.S.
Honorary scholar Poy Palma will (just the same) compete against all the scholars with En Vogue's Free Your Mind.

Bench Blackout

The Bench Blackout: Underwear and Denim Show was held last July 25, 2008 at the Araneta Coliseum. Bench fashion shows are always seen as the gathering of the hottest stars in the country and it is where the stars from different networks unite.

Finale for the Blackout fashion show was Richard Gutierrez. He was not actually as well applauded as Dingdong Dantes who walked the ramp before him. Greatest bod for the night belongs to Sam Milby. Magnificent abs.

Charlie Green on ASAP '08

072708 charlie green on ASAP

Seems like Charlie Green is so busy with tv guestings. Shown here is his ASAP '08 appearance where he sang Summer Wind, the song which made him popular through the show Britain's Got Talent where he was a semi-finalist a few months back.

The issue of racial discrimination came up when he failed to advance to the finals of the said talent show. But his father Roger Green told the media that it wasn't at all that nasty. What happened was they chose not to follow the songs suggested by the show's production unit. They didn't know by that time that not following the song suggestions could lead to loosing.

Charlie Green will do a series of shows at the Conway's Bar of Shangri-La Hotel Makati and hopes to sign with Star Records after his present contract with Simon Cowell which will expire the 1st of September.

The 11-year old British-Filipino singer was also seen on The Buzz this afternoon where he was interviewed by Ruffa Gutierrez. Seems like ABS-CBN has a lot of things to keep the kid busy.

Charlie Green is staying here in Manila until the 10th of August.

Dyosa

072708 dyosa

Another fantaserye that will hit the tube is Dyosa starring Anne Curtis, Luis Manzano, Zanjo Marudo and Sam Milby. Its story line is something that would surely make it a hit among the young ones. It's not the usual fairy story because here Anne Curtis plays Dyosa, goddess of the three elemental forces - earth, land and water.

Dyosa will hit the screen starting August 11, 2008, Mondays-Fridays on ABS-CBN.

Varga Launch

072708 varga

Varga, the new fantasy adventure series presented on Komiks, was launched on today's episode of ASAP '08. It features Mariel Rodriguez who plays the title, and real life boyfriend Zanjo Marudo as the love interest. Varga will pre-empt Kapitan Boom! but it was said that the two superheroes will meet on the pilot episode of Varga this Saturday, August 2, 2008.

The Little Dreamers: 3rd Gala Night

Cristina took away the "star dreamer-ship" award from Angelo (who had been the star dreamer for two consecutive times) and Philip. Her rendition of Leah Navarro's original hit Isang Mundo, Isang Awit is infectious. Her little choreography is awesome even if she just sways side to side. Her voice is so pure and technically correct. As Barbie Almabis, one of the judges, says, Cristina hits all the notes correctly.

On the other hand, Leon and Kelly got the N.I. (Needs Improvement) grade from the last gala night's performance. Kelly, who was also got an N.I. last week, was again saved with a total vote of 76.64%. Leon only got 23.36%.

It's Angelo and Philip's song choices that didn't fit. Angelo could have been given a more upbeat song and a more belt-out song for Philip. I hope Philip makes it again to the top next week.

Song choices of the Little Dreamers (in order of performances):

Kelly - Masdan Mo ang Kapaligiran
Leon - Bless the Beast and the Children
Amy - Laguna
Jerome - I Want to Live
Risie - Big Yellow Taxi
Niki - From a Distance
Dean - What a Wonderful World
Cristina - Isang Mundo, Isang Awit
Aubrey - Masdan Mo ang mga Bata
Angelo - Heal the World
Philip - Anak ng Pasig

It's the End of Penelope's Idol Journey

After much tension, host Richard Gutierrez declared tonight's evictee. Penelope, the girl from Batangas that the judges loved for the powerful voice, is no more. Penelope's votes collapsed, saving Warren and Kid from eviction.

It was predictable that Warren would be part of the bottom group, and could have been eliminated for a poor performance. But votes are votes, his fan base is much stronger than that of Penelope's.

Also in the bottom group was Kid, who seems to be improving and who the fans love for his looks. But just like Warren (plus Daryl), Kid had been in and out of the bottom group. Could one of them be the next to be booted out?

Only 6 idol hopefuls remain, and the competition seems to get tougher every week. It's now the battle of who among them possesses more charm to make the viewers vote for them.

My personal choices are not in the competition anymore. I liked Roby and Sue. Roby for his talent, and Sue for her charm. But they're out now. Too bad.

6th Gala Night Songs

In order of performances:

Inaki - To Where You Are (spot number)
Christian - Shout For Joy (spot number)
Inaki and Christian - Panalangin (duet)

Bugoy, Hansen and Van - Yesterday (aca pella)
Liezel, Cris, Bunny - Stop (upbeat)
Bugoy, Hansen and Van - Tearing Up My Heart (upbeat)

Apple, Miguel and Laarni - Let's Groove Tonight (upbeat)
Liezel, Cris and Bunny - Tide is High (aca pella)
Apple, Miguel and Laarni - Too Much Heaven (aca pella)

Poy - I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing

Inaki Wins Over Christian

The much-awaited aca pella performances is over, and the scholars were gleeful about it for quite a number of reasons.

The probationary scholars were the first to perform. Inaki did his To Where You Are, followed by Christian's Shout For Joy and eventually their duet of Apo Hiking Society's Panalangin. On a comment by the mentors before the commercial break, Teacher Kitchie Molina is quoted as saying "may daya kasi" referring to Christian's Shout For Joy where he didn't do the bridge part as practiced. He shouted it to the audience instead of sing as Teacher Kitchie taught.

The rest of the trio did great. Bugoy, Hansen and Van was even given a perfect 10 by Gerard Salonga, as well as Liezel, Cris and Bunny by Louie Ocampo.

As it turned out, Inaki got more text votes than Christian. The "little man" only got 43.99% of votes, while Inaki got 56.01. It was an emotional moment as he sang his Shout For Joy for the last time on the PDA stage.

The best trio of the night was the Bugoy-Hansen-Van group. They actually got a soaring grade of 9.82 for the songs Yesterday and Tearing Up My Heart. The three were ecstatic especially Hansen (as he usually is after every gala night) because it was his first time to be in the top 3.

Another reason for the scholars to celebrate was nobody was sent on probation last night. A good point because it's really hard to judge trios individually. One is obviously the pillar of the group while the other two remains back-up.

It was a great night, and the mentors are quite happy. Even the hard-to-please Gerard Salonga didn't lash out anyone with his venomous tongue last night. The guest judge Ms. Vernie Varga was obviously impressed by the performances, praising the trio of Apple, Miguel and Laarni for a job well done.

Poy Palma entered her way to the academy by singing (again) her Big Night song I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing. But as Salonga said, "there's only one girl who can sing that song and we already know who she is" pertaining to Regine Velasquez.

Bye Bye Boom, Hello Varga

kapitan boom
jon avila and jay-r siaboc

Kapitan Boom will have its final episode tonight, July 26, 2008. Jon Avila's fans will miss seeing those muscles, but he can still be seen via ASAP every Sunday noon.

Kapitan Boom will be replaced by another Mars Ravelo classic, Varga. Varga is very much like Darna, the ultimate creation of Ravelo. Varga was created in 1947 and appeared in Bulaklak magazine. The writer later transferred to Pilipino Komiks and his Varga became Darna. Copyright issues, perhaps, and he wasn't able to bring Varga along with him to another publication.

Varga will be played by Mariel Rodriguez, who has done more hosting than acting jobs. Will her Varga be a hit? We'll soon find out.

His father Roger Green used to be on British tv and Charlie says he got into the old songs from watching videos of his dad's shows. He started singing just before his 3rd birthday when he sang New York, New York aboard a ship.

Charlie Green is currently tied with Simon Cowell until the 1st of September, after which he'd be signing a record deal with Star Records. For the viewers of Uberture, he sang the old Summer Wind by Frank Sinatra.

Poy Palma to Join the Scholars

poy
poy

Honorary scholar Catherine "Poy" Palma of Zamboanga City will join the scholars inside the house. Her goal would be to get the star scholarship each gala night. Each goal achieved would mean 50,000 pesos in cash, which would then be deducted from the Top 3's prize money with a total of 1.5 million pesos. Another thing is that, if Poy would be able to snatch the star scholarship from the scholars for three times, she would have a chance to decide whether to go home with her prize or give the prize back and be a regular scholar herself.

The Bargain

Since the scholars find it hard to wake up at 6 am (so they can take turns on the treadmill and walk while singing), Teacher Monet made a bargain. Wake up time would be 7 am but they would all have to jog together while singing for 30 to 45 minutes.

Inaki's complaints actually triggered the bargain. There's this one time when he went back to sleep (because he's not used to waking up so early) because their (him and Christian) turn with the treadmill was already finished but he couldn't sleep because Bugoy and Laarni were singing while washing the dishes. Inaki angrily walked across the kitchen, took something out of the fridge and stormed outside.

So PDA had to adjust the wake up time a little later for big baby Inaki's sake. The big baby might lose pounds.

Teacher Kitchie is back after weeks of absence. It was told that she took some masteral course abroad (on such a short time?) On her first day back, she immediately checked on each scholar's posture and breath flow and reviewed last Saturday's performances. She also checked on their 6th gala pieces.

07-23-08 joanna and christian visited the scholars2
jo ampil and christian bautista

Christian Bautista and Joanna Ampil visited the scholars. The two internationally acclaimed performers talked to the scholars casually about performing. Christian even said that the real competition happens after the show ends; that it is easy to be popular but hard to maintain the popularity. The two sang a block from the musical they'd be doing (West Side Story) which amazed the scholars, but the two were in turn amazed by Bugoy's version of Everything I Do (I Do It For You). Of course he really just did a cover, he just added (a lot of) kulot to make the song "his own" (reminds me of Inaki's Summer Breeze)

On Uberture this pm, Billy Crawford said that Bugoy and Christian are now bestfriends...? They showed a clip of the two talking and Bugoy telling Christian that he'd be sad if Christian would leave... I don't know but 24/7 shows Bugoy still all over Hansen. Christian's always with either Laarni, Apple or his singing partner Inaki.

Beauty Gonzales on Iisa Pa Lamang

beauty on Iisa Pa Lamang
genna (beauty gonzales) and sofia (melissa ricks)

The Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus 4th Placer debuts as an actress via Iisa Pa Lamang which airs Monday to Friday on prime time after The Singing Bee.

A few days after the PBB Big Night, Beauty received a call asking her to join the cast of Iisa Pa Lamang. She was so happy and excited to be working with veteran actresses like Susan Roces and Cheri Pie Picache plus the award-winning director Laurice Guillen. But her not being able to speak fluent Tagalog made her nervous.

Beauty plays the role of Genna, the bestfriend of Sofia Castillejos (Melissa Ricks) and has a crush on Toby Torralba (Matt Evans).

Beauty wants to take acting seriously. To attest to that, she even took acting workshops to prepare herself for this role.

Bunny Hyperventilates

As if it runs in the family (remember Chivas?), Bunny had a case of hyperventilation last Tuesday, July 22, 2008, before Teacher Georcelle's dance class, causing her to miss some activities for the day. Bunny was brought to Capitol Medical Hospital where the docs said it was just a simple case of hyperventilation and not pregnancy, as earlier suspected by Teacher Monet. She also missed the latter part of Jim Paredes and Buboy Garovillo's visit where they taught the scholars how to blend their voices well.

07-22-08 buboy garovillo and jim paredes
buboy garovillo and ex-headmaster jim paredes

The Apo, being in the music industry perhaps longer than most of the scholars have ever lived, taught them tips and tricks to become better performers much more on performing in groups. As part of their talk, the two gave the scholars a block of the song It's For You (Head East) to harmonize on, only to realize that most (if not all) of them have problems with harmonization.

But harmony problems is more evident on Christian who is so obviously worried about being on probation. His partner (who's also on probation) Inaki is losing patience on the small guy. But as Christian said to the boys, Inaki always seem to be angry everytime they practice their piece. "Paano maaayos kung galit?" Christian says.

It's Apple's Birthday

07-23-08 Apple's handa2

After Direk Joey's class, the scholars (plus the director) went back to the house to be delighted by the abundance of food on the dining table. They eventually learned that the food was from Apple's gay mothers for her birthday.

07-23-08 the gay moms perform
apple and her 7 gay moms

After quite some time, while the scholars were practicing their trio with Teacher Monet, the gate to the academy opened to reveal Apple's gay mothers dressed in fabulous pink costumes singing Dream Girls from the movie Dream Girls. Realizing those were her gay moms, Apple ran to them, delighted, followed by the scholars. She even performed with them in some portions of the song. The seven gay mothers livened up the afternoon with their stay. They were given a short time inside the house to mingle and eat with the scholars, making Apple's birthday memorable.

Meanwhile, Inaki and Christian are still having a hard time practicing as a duo while the other groups are showing some progress with their harmonies. Christian is obviously stressed out due to that, plus the worry of the coming eviction.

Song Choices and Disappointments

Christian confided in Laarni that Inaki was kind of disappointed with their duet song for the 6th gala. Their original choice was Backstreet Boys' Larger Than Life but as Teacher MOnet immediately reminded Christian, the diction for the song should be impeccable. Monet had Christian sing parts of the chorus and after criticizing his diction, Christian asked Monet if they could have a Tagalog song instead. They settled to Apo Hiking Society's Panalangin but Christian felt Inaki's disappointment.

Direk Joey's class was directed towards working in groups in preparation for their trio/duo on Saturday. One should be aware of his/her groupmate's actions to be able to work as a group, but have individuality at the same time. He gave them an activity called mirror exercises. It is where one has to follow what his partner is doing.

07-21-08 mirror exercise 2
bugoy, liezel, van and cris on mirror exercise

The scholars are already practicing their aca pella songs namely Too Much Heaven (Apple, Miguel, Laarni), Yesterday (Bugoy, Hansen, Van), Tide is High (Cris, Liezel, Bunny) and Panalangin (Inaki, Christian). The duo wouldn't do an aca pella Panalagin in aca pella since they would have one spot song each. The other groups would do an aca pella and an upbeat number.

Upbeat songs for the trios are Let's Groove Tonight (Apple, Miguel, Laarni), Tearing Up My Heart (Bugoy, Hansen, Van) and Stop (Cris, Liezel, Bunny).

Christian's solo would be Shout For Joy.

bea on uberture (billy was absent, hence, toni)

The evicted scholar guested on Uberture this afternoon. Billy Crawford was absent and Toni was the one hosting the show. Bea said that she enjoyed her stay in the academy and that she learned a lot. About Miguel, she'd support him wherever he goes from there. According to her, she and Miguel are on an open relationship. Is that the reason why she flirted a lot inside? Miguel was just quiet about it but words come out of his mouth (and uberture and the prime time episodes show us in installment) after Bea left how he felt about it. Especially mentioning Hansen who was always on Bea's mouth.

Bea ended her guesting by singing her 1st gala night song Runaway.

After Gary Valenciano's visit, Laarni and Christian brought the cd player outside to listen to the cd Gary gave them. Christian pour out some of his emotions to his closest friend inside the academy, Laarni. He even told her about how he feels with his situation, that is, looking like a child despite his age. Laarni gave him some words of encouragement to keep him going.

9. Inaki - 6.33
10. Christian - 6.33
11. Miguel - 6.27
12. Bunny - 6.03

They showed Saturday that Miguel was the one saved by the mentors. They only showed tonight (on prime time tv) that Bunny was the one saved by the scholars. The scholars voted as follows:

Miguel - Inaki
Hansen - Christian
Cris - Bunny
Van - Bunny
Bugoy - Christian
Apple - Bunny
Laarni - Christian
Liezel - Bunny

Bunny got 4 votes, Christian had 3 votes and 1 for Inaki. Miguel and Inaki are both from De La Salle, they were room mates while confined in the hotel before the big night, they're both elites so they'd obviously support each other.

I go for Miguel, though, as well as Christian and the rest EXcluding Inaki, Bunny and Cris. Now that there's only 11 of them left, we can already see who among them are seriously IN the competition and who are just there for maximum exposure. I like people who work harder than they talk.

Gary Valenciano Visits the Scholars

The peak of the day was when Gary Valenciano visited to give the scholars some motivation and inspiration. He talked to them about the differences between impressing and expressing oneself as a performer, that they should reach out to their audience and not just perform to impress. He also talked about seasons in one's life, of how everyone's season will come. He inspired the scholars not to lose hope even if they don't win because their time to shine will come in God's time.

Gary V related his stories as a performer for 25 years, how he started and how he coped up with the ups and downs of being a performer, his influences that include Michael Jackson, Al Jarreau, and James Ingram. According to him, "lessons will come in big and small ways, and it has to be learned."

He requested Van, Apple and Bugoy to sing. Van sang Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore, Apple did Come In From the Rain, and Bugoy made his own rendition of the Gary V original Lead Me Lord before Billy Crawford came in for the Uberture live episode.

The 5th Gala Night Under Direk Joey's Eyes

In Direk Joey's class, he reviewed last Saturday's performances with the scholars. He praised the top 4 (Bugoy, Laarni, Liezel and Apple in that order) and had nothing to comment about except for Apple's excessive moving on stage. For Bunny, he said the hot mama looked like as if she had just taken tranquilizers before going on stage and used epoxy for deodorant, while he told Van that he want him to be more than just an object of sexual fantasies. He criticized Hansen's touching himself while singing the chorus of My Cherie Amour, later on saying that the song Maniac was so him (Hansen).

According to the director, the top 4 did great but "all the rest were in various state of disaster."

07-21-08 mirror exercise
bugoy, liezel, van and cris doing the mirror exercise

They later paired up to do "mirror exercises". The activity was given in preparation for Saturday gala night. The mirror exercises was to teach them coordination and how to perform thinking of not only themselves but members of the group as well.

Sunday With the Scholars

Headmaster Ryan Cayabyab had a one-one-one talk with each of the scholars. He discussed with them their individual rankings for the past 5 weeks and how to improve their craft. He gave an inspiring talk to each of them telling them to aim for star scholarship every week. He also advised most of them to keep from talking about other people inside, to talk less about why other people's like this or like that.

After talking to Van (the last scholar he called), the maestro called everyone to the piano room and sang with them, bonding with them while teaching them basic voicing for some popular songs like Tunay na Ligaya, Araw-gabi (both of which were his own compositions for his wife), Limang Dipang Tao, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Christmas in July?), The Way You Look Tonight, Lovin' You, That's What Friends are For, and Sana ay Ikaw na Nga among others. They also sang Another Goodbye Song but wasn't able to continue because Apple farted. They finished off with I Believe I Can Fly.

Later on in the night, the scholars were made to go inside the boys' bedroom with the headmaster. They bonded well with the headmaster and talked about things. It even went out from the headmaster's mouth that Bugoy's story was what inspired him to do the song Paano na Kaya. When they went out of the room, they were surprised to see a videoke machine in the sala. It turned out that it's where they would have to choose their songs for Saturday.

It's trio time on Saturday (plus a duo of Christian and Inaki). The trios are:
Miguel, Apple and Laarni
Van, Bugoy and Hansen
Cris, Bunny and Liezel

The all girl trio (Cris, Bunny and Liezel) were choosing between Atomic Kitten and Pussycat Dolls songs. While the all boys trio were choosing from the Westlife and other boyband collection. They would have to do two songs for each trio while the duo of Inaki and Christian would do one duet and one spot number each.

Shane, Little Dreamers' First Evictee

philip and angelo

They showed the delayed telecast of the Little Dreamers' 2nd Gala Night tonight. The kids sang the songs I posted here earlier.

Angelo Garcia sang Da Coconut Nut very well singing the verses in low scale shifting to high scale at the chorus. Philip was so cute singing Sama Na Kayo perfectly. The two both got the highest score making the two of them the star dreamers of the week.

It's also the 1st expulsion night for the little dreamers. Kelly and Shane were on the bottom two. Kelly got 53.96% of votes and Shane only got 46.04%. Shane cried realizing she'd no more be part of the contest while the other kids were so happy about Kelly being safe.

Later in the scholar' room, they were talking about Shane's crying (because she was still crying hours after the expulsion) with Headmaster Ryan. It was told that only Nikki and Amy went for Shane while the rest of the kids were betting for Kelly.

The Little Dreamers' 2nd Gala Night Song List

The Little Dreamers' 2nd gala night will have its delayed telecast tonight, July 20, 2008. They will all be singing Ryan Cayabyab songs, paying tribute to the group Smokey Mountain.

Bugoy, PDA 2 5th Gala Night Star Scholar

Liezel was undefeated no more. Bugoy is now Pinoy Dream Academy 2's new star scholar with his performance of I'll Make Love To You by Boyz II Men. Along with Liezel, Bugoy also got the highest grade last week. But it was a duet wherein a pair only gets one grade.

Last night, Bugoy claimed the star scholarship for himself alone. The crowd cheered, Vina Morales praised him although the judge said Bugoy lacked sensuality (it being the night's theme).

Bugoy got 8.80% of grade. Runners up were Liezel and Laarni who both got 8.73%.

The two official probationary scholars for the week are Inaki and Christian. To vote for either of the two, text PDA to 231 (Smart, Talk N’ Text) or to 2331 (Globe, TM, Bayan Wireless).

PDA 2 Says Goodbye to Bea

bea
bea
(from pinoydreamacademy.ph)

Bea had expected it. She had been talking about her leaving since Monday, saying goodbye to her close friends, even worrying how she would face her friends outside. While packing her suitcase this afternoon, she gave out tokens to the scholars to remember her by.

Boyfriend Miguel got 74.85% of votes while Bea only got 25.15%. The other scholars were able to say goodbye to her as they were all onstage having just performed Ryan Cayabyab's Another Goodbye Song. Bea tried to face the verdict with a smile but the compassion from the other scholars was just too much.

Unlike Sheng who went out of the academy straight from the gala stage, Bea was given time to go back inside the house to say her final goodbye. It was spent hugging, kissing and talking to her boyfriend Miguel, the scholar saved by the public.

PDA 2 5th Gala Performance Night: Not So Good Performances

Most of the scholars didn't do as good as the mentors expected. Only the outstanding vocals of Liezel, Laarni and Bugoy (plus the average performances of Van and Apple) stood out. Bunny whined, inhaled and exhaled throughout the song while Christian's tempo was all over the place. Cris sang the verse in time of the chorus and the rest was boring. Even Laarni at one point went into the chorus earlier than the accompaniment. The climax of bad performances was when they sang Another Goodbye Song. It's like putting all their mess together to make the final song of the evening the worst.

Overall it's an entertaining night. I just wished they made Vina Morales (who joined Gerard Salonga and Louie Ocampo in judging) sing, just to make the scholars see what performing is all about.
