PDA 2 4th Gala Performance/Probation Night: Is It Oust Bea?

It was a very tension-filled evening for the scholars. For the past three weeks, the gala night ends up with the announcement of the star scholar. But it was replaced this week by the immediate announcement of the bottom four, and eventually, the two probationary scholars.

The scholars performed in duets. A pair could only have one grade; therefore, one's mistake would affect his partner's rating as well. I was kinda worried with Laarni and Iñaki early in the week with fears that they wouldn't get along. But they proved themselves professional by having a great performance despite character differences. What didn't work was the duet of the lovers Miguel and Bea. They changed their song in the middle of the week because Miguel couldn't quite reach the high notes of Someday We'll Know. They chose Araw-gabi instead, but Bea, in turn, was the one who had troubles with its melodies. As Teacher Monet pointed out, Bea's musical foundation is so weak, and to quote Miguel while talking to Sen and Christian, "She [Bea] has no musicality."

The bottom pairs were Cris-Hansen and, as expected, Bea-Miguel. The Dream Mentor's Choice was Cris, which left the lovers and Hansen for the other scholars' to vote on. This week, it's "vote for the one you want to save". The voting went as follows:
Bugoy: Hansen
Bunny: Miguel
Iñaki: Miguel
Apple: Bea
Liezel: Hansen
Van: Hansen
Cris: Hansen
Christian: Hansen
Laarni: Hansen

Bugoy voting for Hansen and Apple voting for Bea was no surprise. What's surprising was Christian voting for Hansen for the sole reason that they belong to the same place (Taguig).

And then we thought Christian was "tight" with the lovers. Belonging to the same place is a kinda shallow reason for your friend to vote for someone else. Now we know who are friends inside the academy. Not that they vote on "talent", the first probation night attests to that where Laarni only got two votes.

So Hansen was saved, leaving the two rich kids under probation. Now it's a question of whose family would buy more cellphone load to vote.

The scholars' song choices:
Apple-Van: Nobody Wants to be Lonely (Christina Aguilera/Ricky Martin)
Laarni-Iñaki: Kung Ako Na Lang Sana (Bituin Escalante)
Bunny-Christian: Ain't No Mountain High Enough (Diana Ross and the Supremes)
Bea-Miguel: Araw-gabi (Regine Velasquez)
Cris-Sen: Burn (Tina Arena)
Liezel-Bugoy: If I Ain't Got You (Alicia Keys)

Jamie Rivera was the guest judge who joined the resident jurors Louie Ocampo and Gerard Salonga. Wu Chun and Calvin Chen were the guest performers of the night making the young audience shriek with delight. A number of their fans from Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia flew all the way to Manila to support the Taiwanese heartthrobs. They were visible in the PDA 2 audience with placards screaming Wu and Calvin's names. Also seen in the audience was Bunny's husband and expelled scholar Chivas.
