Elmo Magalona has just released his first single entitled 3 Stars and the Son. It features singers Kris Lawrence, Jay-R and Billy Crawford who were all surprisingly good in rapping.
The phrase 3 Stars and the Son is taken from "3 Stars and a Sun" which, although it really refers to the Philippine flag where 3 stars and a sun can be seen, is more identified with Elmo's father, the late Francis Magalona. who used it as a sign of nationalism. Francis M even made the logo of 3 Stars and a Sun more popular by printing it on merchandise produced by Francis Magalona Clothing Company (FMCC), his own clothing line.
Elmo pays tribute to his father by using the phrase, and by changing the last part to "the son" which literally refers to him, who is the son of Francis. Three stars, in turn, refer to Kris, Jay-R and Billy who sang with Elmo in the single.
