Paolo Ballesteros is Tokyo IFF's Best Actor for Die Beautiful

Paolo Ballesteros won the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) Best Actor award for his role in the dramedy film Die Beautiful.

Directed by Jun Lana, Die Beautiful is one of the entries in the Main Competition of the TIFF, which ran from October 25, 2016 to November 3, 2016.

The movie is about a "transgender woman’s dying wish to be dressed as Lady Gaga for her funeral." The wish "sparks a fierce battle between her conservative Filipino-Chinese family and her well-meaning drag queen friends."

It is "funded by Hong Kong – Asia Financing Forum and produced by APT Entertainment, TheIdeaFirst Company, and October Train Films."

Paolo Ballesteros accepted the award dressed up as Julia Roberts.

Meanwhile, Die Beautiful was also awarded the festival's Audience Choice Award.
