Danica Flores Magpantay, 17, won Ford Supermodel of the World last Saturday in New York.
Danica bested more than 70 supermodels from all over the world, winning $250,000 of modeling contract. First runner-up was from Lithuania and second runner-up was from Poland. They received modeling contracts of $150,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Danica, a 17-year-old Fine Arts student of the University of the Philippines, isn’t new to modeling. Her mom, the now famous make-up artist Lala Flores, represented the country at the same competition in 1990 winning the Crest Best Smile award. Such genes I may say.
At 5’ 9”, Danica is the first ever Filipina to win the title. Those who came close were Melanie Marquez who was the first Pinay to join Ford Supermodel of the World in 1986 and finished second runner-up, Charo Ronquillo who was second runner-up in 2006, and Chat Almarvez who won first runner-up last year.
