Ang Panday starring Coco Martin - Poster #AngPanday #MMFF2017

Ang Panday is one of the much-awaited entries at the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) not only because it stars Coco Martin but also because it is the reboot of an original Filipino action-fantasy story that most Pinoys grew up with.

Coco plays Flavio III, the grandson of the original Panday whose world turns upside down when he realizes that his bloodline is the only one capable of saving humanity from the evil Lizardo (Jake Cuenca) who comes back from the world of darkness to destroy the human race.

Aside from doing the lead role, Coco also directed Ang Panday and co-produced it with Star Cinema and Viva Films.

Also in the cast are Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa and Miss International Philippines 2017 Mariel de Leon.

Check out the behind-the-scenes music video below featuring the movie's theme song performed by Gloc-9 and Ebe Dancel. It will give you a glimpse of how Coco is as a director.

Ang Panday is showing December 25 along with other entries of MMFF 2017.

Based on the graphic novel created by Carlo J. Caparas and illustrated by Steve Gan, the Panday character was originally portrayed in the movies by Fernando Poe, Jr. The late actor did four sequels of the movie in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1984, all for MMFF. RPN 9 also aired an animation series based on the first movie in the mid-1980s. Two Panday-based films were released in the 1990s starring Bong Revilla (1993) in one and Jinggoy Estrada (MMFF 1998) in the other. In 2005, ABS-CBN did a TV series based on the popular story starring Jericho Rosales. In 2009, Bong Revilla did a remake of the original story, also for MMFF.
