The tropical depression spotted near Surigao del Sur is now Typhoon Ramon which is currently 560 kilometers east of Surigao. Typhoon Ramon has a maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph).
It will arrive on the eastern section of Visayas (Leyte area) on Wednesday night, bringing heavy rains over Visayas and Mindanao with its 200 kilometer radius.
Storm signal number 1 has been raised over Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur. More areas will be declared under storm signal as Typhoon Ramon passes through Southern Luzon and eventually the Mindoro islands as it leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday or Sunday.
