38th Gawad Urian - Winners List

Veteran indie filmmaker Lav Diaz has added more achievements in his career by collecting four major awards including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Director for his 2014 indie drama, “Mula Sa Kung Ano Ang Noon” at the 38th Gawad Urian which aired live on Cinema One last Tuesday night (June 16).

Although absent at the awards night, Lav sent a representative to thank the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP) for recognizing Lav’s storytelling talent.

37th Gawad Urian replays on Cinema One on June 26 and 29

Following the night that honored and celebrated excellence in Philippine cinema over the past year, held by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, and Cinema One, the winners of this year’s 37th Gawad Urian have finally been announced.

37th Gawad Urian to be hosted by Piolo Pascual and Bianca Gonzales

All is set for the night to honor and celebrate cinematic excellence, as the highly-anticipated ceremony for the 37th Gawad Urian fast approaches.


Happening on June 17, the Gawad Urian is considered the most prestigious film award-giving body in the country, which has shaped cinematic history over the years. This annual ceremony is held in light of a partnership formed between the oldest and most respected film awards institution in the country, the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, and Cinema One, the Philippines’ number one cable channel.

Paulo Avelino is Best Actor, Maja Salvador is Best Actress at Gawad Urian 2012 (List of Winners)

Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa was a big winner at the 35th Gawad Urian (2012). It got a total of seven (7) awards including Best Actor for Paulo Avelino, Best Supporting Actress for Jean Garcia, Best Director for Alvin Yapan and the most coveted Best Picture award.

Maja Salvador won the Best Actress award for her performance in Thelma, while Art Acuña was Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Niño

And the Gawad Urian 2012 winners are…

Awards night of the 35th Gawad Urian (2012) will be held at the AFP Theater in Camp Crame, Santolan, Quezon City, on June 13, 2012 at 7 PM.

Presented by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, the prestigious awarding ceremony will be hosted by Angel Aquino, Venus Raj, Zoren Legaspi and Butch Francisco.

35th Gawad Urian (2012) – List of Nominees

Paulo Avelino is nominated in the Best Actor category in this year’s Gawad Urian for his role in Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa, the same role that gave him a Best Supporting Actor award at the recent Gawad Pasado.

Jake Cuenca, on the other hand, is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in In The Name of Love. He was the 28th Star Awards for Movies Best Supporting Actor for the same role.

Eugene Domingo is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank, and Shamaine Buencamino in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Niño. The two made quite a buzz recently when they won at the 6th Asian Film Awards as People’s Choice for Favorite Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively.
