Miss Ukraine withdraws from Miss Grand International 2024

A few hours before the Miss Grand International 2024 national costume competition, news about the withdrawal of Miss Ukraine Kateryna Bilyk from the pageant hit the news.

According to an official statement posted on Instagram, Bilyk said she was forced to withdraw from the pageant "due to severe harm to my health caused by the conditions of the event."

She said she was "required to participate in activities" from very early in the morning until very late at night.

The beauty queen also said she had to work even while having a fever.

She was also "given an unidentified pill by the MGI team, which posed a potential allergy risk."

The team also "failed to call a doctor when I fainted and forced me to continue working with a fever of 38.5°C and [blood] pressure of 151/90."

She also alleged that "the organizers confiscated my passport for three days in Cambodia, unlawfully restricting my freedom of movement."

Meanwhile, Miss Grand International posted on Facebook regarding the "Dismissal of Miss Grand Ukraine 2024, Ms. Kateryna Bilyk."

According to the post, the decision to dismiss Bilyk came "as a result of her violation of several terms outlined in the contestant agreement, which she had acknowledged and signed prior to entering the pageant."

The post further stated that " Miss Grand International upholds the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and all contestants are expected to adhere to the rules and agreements set forth."

The post came with a screenshot of what seemed to be an e-mail sent to Miss Grand International by Natalya Kovalyova, president of Queen of Ukraine, the national pageant Bilyk won that earned her the right to represent Ukraine in MGI 2024.
