Two earthquakes hit Occidental Mindoro on Saturday night, January 14, 2018.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the first earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.0, at exactly 11:20 PM with epicenter located 30 kilometers (km) southwest of Paluan, Occidental Mindoro.
The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 7 km.
Intensity II was recorded in Tagaytay City; Calatagan, Batangas; and Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.
The second earthquake was recorded at exactly 11:49 PM Saturday night and was a little stronger than the first one at magnitude 5.2. Its epicenter was located 26 km west of Paluan.
The second quake was also tectonic in origin and had a depth of 4 km.
Intensity III was felt in Tagaytay City and Quezon City.
Phivolcs warned of aftershocks from both earthquakes.
