Liezel, Laarni and Bugoy on ASAP 08

Liezel Garcia, Laarni Losala and Bugoy Bogayon, the only three scholars who met the criteria to be called "star scholars" during the past gala performances of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2, graced ASAP 08. Liezel had a duet with the sultry siren Nina, Laarni with the modern jukebox queen Sheryn Regis, and Bugoy with the total performer Gary Valenciano.

Watch these three scholars together with Van Pojas, Miguel Mendoza and Cris Pastor as they prepare toward the Grand Dream Night happening on September 13, 2008.

Eraserheads Reunion Concert Cut Short

Excited fans gathered at Fort Bonifacio for the reunion concert of Eraserheads, the most successful band of the 90s. But the fun was cut short when after 14 songs, the band took a break for a 20-minute intermission which seemed to be taking too long. After a while, Raimund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro, and Buddy Zabala together with Ely's sister, Lally, returned on stage to tell the news that Ely had to be rushed to the hospital.

The concert was originally scheduled for free on August 23 but was cancelled because its sponsor, Marlboro, supposedly violated the ban on tobacco advertising. A new sponsor took the concert and tickets were eventually sold via Ticketworld. To top it all, Ely's mom died on August 28.

Ely reportedly passed out due to stress and lack of sleep. The Eraserheads front man is now in stable condition at the Makati Medical Center.

PDA 2: The Top 6 Scholars

Hansen sang His Eye is On the Sparrow (Lauryn Hill), a song so meaningful to him because as he said, he heard it over a movie during the time he was undergoing treatment for his cancer. If there is one thing that improved in his singing, it's the fact that his voice became a little thicker. His technique is also better but he still hasn't improved to the point that he can compete with the other remaining scholars. His notes were still somehow off and his singing unsure.

Van, the other probationary scholar, sang Who Am I? by Casting Crowns. It's so evident that he sings better than Sen. He hit his notes well although he still hasn't mastered the technique of hitting the high notes that will somehow make it seem effortless.

Laarni seemed like a professional tonight with her interpretation of I Am Blessed (Eternal). Resident judge Louie Ocampo even said that he's quite sure she'll be one of the top 3 (on the Grand Dream Night or just for the gala night, he didn't specify).

I was quite moved by Miguel's rendition of Barry Manilow's Sandra but Girlie Rodis (the guest and only other judge of tonight's gala) wasn't quite satisfied by his singing. She said Miguel wasn't able to deliver the story behind the song, a fact which the mentors agreed on. Liezel has "may dating" (with reference to Louie Ocampo's words) tonight with the song Goodbye (Celine Dion) but the judge also advised her not to shout too much. On the other hand, Cris's performance of Natalie Cole's Inseparable was enjoyed by Girlie Rodis and even commented on how Cris's singing has improved since the first time she saw her on the first gala night.

The last scholar to perform was last week's star scholar Bugoy. He delivered Guy Sebastian's Can't Stop a River so well that Louie Ocampo was all praises for The Farmer's Son.

After all seven performances, the scholars did a medley of some of the songs included in the album The Scholars Sing Cayabyab which was released tonight. The medley started off with Miguel and Bugoy singing Paano Na Kaya? followed by Liezel, Laarni and Cris with Another Goodbye Song. The probationary scholars Van and Sen did Gano'n Ba? while the audience cheered for the two goodlooking scholars. The medley ended with Paano Na Kaya?

The top 5 scholars were called back on stage after the medley, afterwhich the two probees were called. The results of the text votes were made. Hansen was evicted for getting only 45.42% of votes while Van was saved by getting the higher percentage of 54.58. Sen's mom and twin brother were crying in the audience as the cancer survivor kissed and hug the top 6 scholars goodbye.

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya

It has been confirmed by Manny Pacquiao himself that there's going to be a Pacman vs The Golden Boy boxing match this coming December at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, who won in four weight divisions, will fight against De La Hoya, who's a champion in six weight divisions. Considered as the biggest fight in his boxing career, Manny Pacquiao said he wants to prepare well for the fight. It's his first time to fight against someone as big as De La Hoya but they agreed to fight under 147 pounds.

A New Dance Teacher

The remaining 7 scholars have been practicing the songs they picked for themselves. For next Saturday's gala night, they were asked to pick songs that's within their element; something to showcase their talent, aside from the fact that it should have something to do with their life story. The scholars' song choices are the following:

Laarni: I am Blessed by Eternal
Liezel: Goodbye (The Saddest Word I Ever Heard) by Celine Dion
Hansen: His Eyes is On the Sparrow by Lauryn Hill
Van: Who Am I? by Casting Crowns
Cris: Inseparable by Natalie Cole
Bugoy: Can't Stop a River by Guy Sebastian
Miguel: Sandra by Barry Manilow

Sen's mom called and the two said their I love you's. Sen was crying because he missed his mom who he hasn't talked to for so long. Hansen went to his bed after the conversation where he was joined by Cris. They ended up hidden under Sen's mattress.

Maribeth Bitchara, the Grand Dream Night's choreographer, met the remaining 7 scholars. She asked them to introduce themselves while dancing. Afterwards, Teacher Maribeth gave them an activity called the "exercise dance" where they should express how they feel through dancing.

The choreographer made it straight first and foremost that she's very strict in her lessons because she wants her students to learn. It turned out, though, that the scholars seemed to have gotten used to their previous choreographer's (Georcelle Dapat) sarcasm and constant high-pitched recital that made them more distracted from learning rather than inspiring them to learn. Maribeth Bitchara talks more sensibly and more down-to-earth despite her seniority in age and experience.

Maribeth noticed, though, that Liezel was still holding back as a performer and she still lacked confidence.

Probationary scholar Van was visited by his brother and father. It was a very emotional moment as they hugged and cried. The two reassured Van of their support. Van's younger brother will be going back to the US today, 28th of August. Van told his brother to say sorry to their mother for him.

Meanwhile, Miguel and ex-scholar Chivas went to the wedding of Art Samaniego, Uberture's e-mail sender who asked the scholars to put melody to his poem during the first weeks of PDA (an activity which was won by the One Voice org). The two arrived at Paco Church in time for the couple's vows of "I do" after which they sang the song.

Eighteen castaways join "Survivor Philippines"

Who will be the first Pinoy Sole Survivor?

Will it be the laundry woman with the strong hands or the male model with the chiseled abs?

Could it be the driver who wants to achieve a better life or the nanny who dreams of showbiz stardom?

The first Pinoy Sole Survivor could be any of them or the 14 other hopefuls all vying for the P3 million grand prize in GMA-7's reality show.

After thousands of Filipinos flocked to local auditions, GMA-7 decided to give more people a chance to be part of this once in a lifetime event. Instead of 16 contenders, Survivor Philippines picked 18 castaways from different corners of the country and from all walks of life.

Among them is a female farmer who seeks greener pastures, a call center agent who wants to quit the graveyard shift and a basketball player who wants to take a shot to win the jackpot.

Isolated in an island, deprived of basic necessities and challenged to chart unfamiliar territory, 18 strangers will fight it out armed only with instincts, strength and wit.

Expect fierce competition, willful deceit and sly strategies as each challenger tries to be the last one standing. Who will outwit, outlast and outplay all castaways to become the first Pinoy Sole Survivor?

Find out as Survivor Philippines fires up your TV screens this September only on GMA-7.

A Fourth Judge For American Idol

Kara DioGuardi

American Idol producers have decided to add another judge to the popular reality series for its eight season, in addition to Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. The new judge, Kara DioGuardi, will balance out gender distribution at the jury table, as well as provide a counterweight to the oftentimes gushy persona of Paula Abdul.

Executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz was quoted in People, saying, "We've seen from our international series that having a fourth judge creates a dynamic that benefits both the contestants and the viewers."

I guess this decision to add a fourth judge was due to season seven incident where Paula commented on contestant Jason Castro's supposed second song when it hadn't been sung yet.

Wikipedia has this article about Kara DioGuardi:
She is a multi-Grammy nominated songwriter, having written or co-written many international hit songs from 1999 to today.

Kara DioGuardi's songs have been recorded by artists including Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Hilary Duff, Carrie Underwood, Avril Lavigne, Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill, Santana, Ashlee Simpson, Jewel, Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, and many others. DioGuardi has also had much success with major Latin music artists including RBD, Laura Pausini, Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, Thalía, Ricky Martin, and Carlos Santana. DioGuardi can also be heard performing backup vocals on some of these recordings.

As Senior VP of A&R at Warner Bros. Records, DioGuardi has recently signed artists Jason Reeves, Laze & Royal, Atozzio, and David Hodges to the label.

DioGuardi's forthcoming releases and collaborations include cuts from artists David Cook, Britney Spears, Esmee Denters, Pink, Martina McBride, Hannah Montana, Demi Lovato, Diego, Menudo, Tom Jones, Amie Miriello, The Pussycat Dolls, Nick Lachey, Daniel Powter, Crosby Loggins, Tyler Hilton, Halestorm, Jesse Lee, and the Clique Girlz. She also has songs featured in the movies Camp Rock, The Cheetah Girls 3, and Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Amy is this week’s Outstanding Little Dreamer

A Tina Turner hit entitled What’s Love Got to Do, plus a remarkable voice quality, earned Amy another chance on the Outstanding Little Dreamer title on their 7th Gala Night themed after iconic interpretation. Though she had little troubles with diction, the 6-year old kid from Las Piñas was able to wow the two resident jurors, Jimmy Antiporda and Aiza Seguerra. The latter even jokingly questioned the child’s age since she sings too well for her age.

The Little Dreamers’ 7th Gala Night was indeed full of surprises. Aside from Amy’s performance and the other Little Dreamers’ show stopping iconic interpretations, another act shook the performance hall last night. Since it was show host Nikki Gil’s birthday, Billy Crawford, who happens to be the birthday girl’s special someone, went up on stage to offer her a bouquet of flowers.

Based on last week’s Gala Night, on the other hand, Kelly and Risie were placed in an awkward position after both received a needs improvement grade. Luckily for Risie, the viewing public had decided to keep her in the Academy after gathering 58.38 percent of the total text votes.

After five accumulated probations, Kelly finally bid the Academy goodbye. It could have been the end of her journey towards her dream, if not for the good news that Nikki brought. Luckily for Kelly and all other expelled Little Dreamers, they will be given another shot to try their luck inside the Academy. According to Nikki, there will be a Back to School Round next week, thus no expulsion shall take place. In the said round, all expelled Little Dreamers will be competing against each other for another chance inside the Academy, and two possible returnees will be taken in. Who among them could take hold of the priceless second chance in the Academy? Stay updated by staying tuned on PinoyDreamAcademy Season 2 Primetime edition with Toni, every weeknight right after My Girl!

PDA 2: 10th Gala Night

It was a gala night that was so relaxing to watch. Most of the scholars have improved that it was so evident who the bottom ones were. As of the top scholar, it was hard to tell between Bugoy and Laarni but it was satisfactory when Bugoy was announced as the one who got the highest grade of 9.81.

The academy rules have changed for tonight, they only announced the bottom two scholars instead of the usual four. Announcing only the bottom two meant that the mentors nor the scholars had the chance to save any one, and the announced bottom two are nonetheless the two probationary scholars of the week - Hansen (7.29) and Van (7.30)

Inaki was evicted tonight for getting only 24.03% of votes while Miguel remained in the academy for getting 75.97%. That makes Miguel an official top 6 scholar together with Laarni, Bugoy, Liezel and Cris. Either Van or Sen will eventually complete the top 6 who will perform on the Grand Dream Night which is scheduled on September 13. They now Awarding is on September 14.

Honorary scholar Poy also left the academy tonight for failing to achieve her mission of being a star scholar for three times which would have given her a chance to become a regular scholar.

The remaining seven scholars will sing a song of their choice on the 11th gala night. Teacher Monet said their songs should be something within their element; that it should showcase their talent the best way possible. The teacher also advised them to choose an upbeat/dance song for the 12th gala night.

Laarni and Zsa Zsa Padilla will do a duet of the song Hiram on ASAP '08 tomorrow.

Dingdong Dantes, One of the World's Sexiest

dingdong dantes 2

Dingdong Dantes is one of E! Entertainment Television's 25 sexiest men of the world.

It seems that Dingdong's sexiness impresses not just the locals. Charlene Sakoda, executive producer of E! Entertainment Television in L.A. California has been talking with Dingdong Dantes's manager because E! has decided to put Dingdong as the only Filipino in their list of 25 Sexiest Men of the World. E! chose between Dingdong and another Filipino talent but the final word came from E!'s president who personally chose Dingdong Dantes.

The actor will be featured through an interview where pics and footages of his works will also be included. The show "Sexiest: Men of the World" is slated to air 3rd or 4th quarter of this year.

Dingdong Dantes started out dancing with the Abstract before he became a part of the 2nd batch of TGIS. He has always been a pretty face and one of those who has maintained their popularity from being a teen star to being a major showbiz personality.

Indeed he has turned from a cute teen to a very masculine young man. As of late, Dingdong can be seen on magazines and billboards with more skin than before.

Those who are already included in E!'s sexiest men list are Gilles Marini (France), Kostas Martakhs (Greece), Michael Lewis (Israel), Dan Carter (New Zealand) and David Beckham (UK).

PDA 2: Two Birthdays and a Farewell

The scholars decided to wear formal clothes to their classes one day before Miguel's birthday. The teachers like the look, Teacher Von even said that he hopes the scholars always dress like that.

Miguel has finally let go of his stiffness. The mentors first noticed it last Saturday in the 9th gala night. It was also evident in Direk Joey's class where the director said he saw what he wanted to see from Miguel.

The scholars also had a party to celebrate Poy's last week inside the academy. Most of them were emotional about it, especially Poy because as she says, she's not used to saying goodbyes. But the mood changed when Inaki announced that they were going to have a swimming party.

Bea brought a cake for Miguel, but the birthday celebrant became most emotional when his mom visited him in the counseling room. It was a very emotional moment while the mother and son hugged crying, Miguel saying "Mommy..." repeatedly, a single word that said a thousand things; like a child who woke up from a very bad dream, finding comfort in the arms of his loving mother.

Inaki's mom also visited him and told him to make amends to the scholars whose feelings he had hurt.

But who among the two probees will be saved this Saturday? To vote, text PDA and send to 2331 for Globe and Sun Cellular or 231 for Smart, Talk 'N Text and Addict Mobile subscribers.

Francis Magalona is Getting Better

Francis Magalona’s health condition is improving, his daughter Maxene said Thursday.

Magalona has been diagnosed to have leukemia. He went on television last week to reveal his illness and took a leave of absence from co-hosting the noontime show Eat Bulaga! to seek medical attention.

Maxene told the staff of Chika Minute that her father gained weight while getting intensive treatment at a hospital in Manila.

The young actress thanked people who supported his father, especially those who donated blood.

Maxene added that the condition of the master rapper is improving and doctors might allow him to go home.

“Talagang strong pa sya, actually tumaba pa siya… he’s getting better," the young actress said. - GMANews.TV

Matt Evans Scandal

matt evans

There's a supposed video of Matt Evans pleasuring himself before his PBB days. I heard the network he's working for already made a way to remove the video from the internet. Yeah it's not on YouTube. But you can watch it here.

Hurry, before it's too late =)

Matt is also rumored to be a call boy in one of the QC malls before going in showbusiness. His career started when he joined Pinoy Big Brother and got his big break when he starred in Pedro Penduko. He currently appears in Iisa Pa Lamang together with his current love team, Melissa Ricks.

Pokwang Aswang?

This is the video of Eat Bulaga's portion where Joey de Leon used Pokwang's name in a song.

The song's lyrics:

Imagine there's no Seven, wala nang network war
Wala na ang Kapuso, remake ng Marimar
Imagine walang Bubble Gang every Friday
Imagine Mike Enriquez, walang excuse me po
No Dyesebel to watch for and no more Gobingo
Imagine no more Idol, no Saksi at Sis
At wala nang Dramarama
Channel 2's the only one
Makikita araw-araw ay mukha lang ni Pokwang
Makikita araw-araw ay mukha lang ng aswang
Imagine the situation, I wonder if you can
We need some girls like Marian, not girls who look like men.

If you would analyze the song, Joey de Leon didn't directly call Pokwang an aswang. He just used Pokwang's name in a sentence then repeated that sentence and replaced Pokwang's name with the word aswang. But then again, you be the judge =)

PDA 2: Poy Palma's Last Week

On the three gala nights that honorary scholar Poy Palma had been through, she was not able to make it as the star scholar, losing her chance to become a regular scholar and part of the top 6.

She will be performing on next Saturday's gala night with the Ryan Cayabyab Singers to mark the end of her stay as the honorary scholar. They will do a version of Jon Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer.

Probationary scholar Inaki will do Tina Turner's Proud Mary with the power diva Bituin Escalante. The two already had the chance to work together in theater when Inaki was still a kid and Bituin was all praises with Inaki.

Sen, on the other hand, was worried with his song and even talked to Teacher Monet about it. He was thinking he might not be able to impress the judges because he has a slow, laid back piece. He will be performing Gary V and Kyla's Let's Stop and Talk a While together with his celebrity duet Raechelle Alejandro.

Piolo Pascual: Pure Passion

pure passion

Piolo Pascual launches Pure Passion, a new male perfume, and It Just Gets Better, a new clothing line, courtesy of Bench. In an interview after the product launch/mini-concert at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia, Piolo cleared the issue of his not being part of the Blackout underwear fashion show. He said that it's his personal conviction, that when he signed up with Bench, it's specified that he would not be part of any underwear show wearing just underwear or anything sexy.

Piolo is happy that Bench is giving an all-out support for his perfume and new line of clothes. He is actually the first Filipino actor to have his name on any perfume or apparel.

PDA 2: Singing With Star Partners

The theme for Pinoy Dream Academy's 10th gala night is "Singing with Star Partners". The scholars' vocal powers will be brought to great tests as they try to match their star duet. Miguel will be singing Never Say Goodbye (Nonoy Zuniga) with Sherin Regis, Cris will sing Kissing a Fool (George Michael) with Richard Poon, and Laarni will strike high notes with Jed Madela via The Prayer (Josh Groban/Charlotte Church).

Other scholars' partners are yet to be announced.

Laarni will do a solo for her guesting on ASAP '08 this Sunday. She will sing Ryan Cayabyab's yet unreleased composition "Malapit Na" which Laarni herself will be recording.

PDA 2: 9th Gala Performance Ranking

Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 9th Gala Performance Ranking:

1. Laarni - 8.97 (star scholar)
2. Bugoy - 8.77
3. Poy - 8.63
4. Van - 7.77
5. Liezel - 7.63
6. Miguel - 7.5 (on probation)
7. Cris - 7.43 (saved by scholars)
8. Inaki - 7.27 (on probation)
9. Bunny - 6.40 (expelled)
10. Hansen - 6.30 (saved by mentors)

Every single one of the scholars voted for Cris including Hansen who was so hurt when Cris didn't vote for him during the 8th probation night. He even cited the golden rule before showing his vote: "do unto others what you want others to do unto you."

Cris was so happy and said she didn't know everyone liked her. On the other hand, Inaki was so upset about being on probation. He was crying after it was made final. Miguel was just his usual self, though, even if he had been part of the bottom group for five consecutive times already and is now his third time being on probation.

The Little Dreamers: 6th Gala Night

aubrey

For the 6th gala performance and expulsion night of Pinoy Dream Academy Little Dreamers, the eight remaining kids sang songs about growing up. Angelo could have been the outstanding little dreamer again with his song Awit ng Kabataan (Rivermaya) if not for his wrong use of air flow which resulted in cutting of some words. Philip also had flats and quite uncertain of a few notes at the beginning of his song Growing Up (Gary Valenciano). Amy gave a heartfelt performance of Lea Salonga's version of Someone's Waiting For You but also failed to be on top.

Kelly sang one of the juror's own hits - Aiza Seguerra's Pagdating ng Panahon - and the juror was quite happy with her own interpretation. Dean gave a mediocre performance of Anak by Freddie Aguilar, while Risie and Cristina belted out Because of You (Kelly Clarkson) and Yesterday's Dream (Donna Cruz) respectively.

Overall, it was a good night, and it was so good to know that the show's researchers seemed to favor OPM more than foreign songs. Five out of the eight songs were actually OPM, not counting Lea Salonga's Someone's Waiting For You because it was just a version and originally a foreign song.

At the end of the show, the jury composed of resident jurors Jimmy Antiporda, Aiza Seguerra and guest juror Jessa Zaragoza favored Aubrey's performance of Big Girls Don't Cry (Fergie Ferguson). It was Aubrey's first time to become the Outstanding Little Dreamer.

The other kids who have already received the Outstanding Little Dreamer award are Angelo, Philip, Cristina and Amy.

dean and kelly

It was a sad night for Dean, though, because as part of the bottom two last week, he got the lesser number of votes compared to the other bottom 2, Kelly. Dean only got 42.34% and Kelly was saved for getting 57.66% of votes. It was Kelly's fourth time to be at the bottom, and fourth time to be saved. Dean put up a strong front when the result was announced but still cried afterwards.

Who could be the 6th set of bottom 2 kids? Find out next week on Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 Little Dreamers.

PDA 2 9th Gala Night

The Pinoy Dream Academy scholars performed a duet with counterpointing songs tonight. Some pairs were effective while others were not. The worst was the pair of the two probationary scholars, Bunny and Hansen. Aside from Bunny's bad singing voice due to her cyst in the throat, Hansen's voice was so weak it didn't have enough power to capture the audience's listening attention. There were screaming and clapping in the audience but we all know it's due to Hansen's physical attributes and not really because of his singing. On the other hand, Inaki and Cris were like doing their first recital for voice lessons.

Laarni's nerves got through her singing on the first part of her song (On the Wings of Love) but she showed such power towards the middle till the end of the song which resulted in her being the star scholar for this week with the grade of 8.97. And as part of being the star scholar, she will be performing live at ASAP '08 Sunday after tomorrow. On ASAP tomorrow is Bugoy who was last week's star scholar.

The other two who was part of the top 3 are Poy and Bugoy. Bugoy is really an exceptional singer except for his diction and that was what the judges noticed. But as Lani Misalucha said, it could easily be corrected.

The showdown between Poy and Liezel was disappointing on Liezel's part. They sang Got To Be Real and Liezel was pitchy all over. It showed her voice's mediocrity when partnered with another soprano.

Resident juror Gerard Salonga was back from (as Billy Crawford put it) "his two-week hiatus". He joined the other resident judge Louie Ocampo and guest judge Lani Misalucha in judging tonight's gala performances.

Bunny was evicted tonight for getting only 39.65% of text votes against Hansen's 60.35%.

Among the eight scholars, Hansen got the lowest grade of 6.30 followed by Inaki who got 7.27. Also part of the bottom four were Cris with a 7.43 and Miguel with a 7.50. Hansen was saved by the mentors and Cris was eventually saved by the scholars.

The two who are on probation this week are the two lasallites Inaki and Miguel. Voting starts Monday.

The Half-Blood Prince Re-scheduled

Warner Bros is postponing the realease of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. From the original November 2008, it will be shown on July 2009. The company says it will be better released on a summer just like the last Harry Potter movie which was released July 2007 and still remains to be the 2nd highest grossing film in the franchise. However, they admit that they "are still feeling the repercussions of the writers strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts".

The movie is about Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and finding the book belonging to the half-blood prince.

Beverly Hills 90210

I remember being a die-hard fan of Beverly Hills 90210 back in high school and college. It's informative in a way that I was given a glimpse of the high society kids' life in the most posh residential area of the US. The story line also took my interest as it would a normal teenager because of the issues of friendship, family and love.

Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth (the original Brenda and Kelly) are back in the halls of West Beverly High. The new BH 90210 premiers this September and I'm sure old fans are ever excited and can't wait to watch it.

The Mini-Concert

Last Monday, the scholars were tasked to do a mini-concert to be held Wednesday. The scholars chose Iñaki as the director considering that he had done various theater works as part of the theater group called Trumpets. They had prepared hard, re-practicing their past gala pieces that they chose to perform for the said concert, doing everything from the props to the stage design. They were so excited especially after knowing that the bigwigs from the music industry were going to be their audience. It was their chance to showcase their talents! Even Ai-ai Delas Alas went to the academy to give them tips and advices on what to do during live performances and how to cope up with glitches.

Little did they know that the concert was to test their presence of mind, because the glitches that were to happen were scripted. And to top it all, the audience who they thought were bigwigs were actually not real but mere actors pretending to be bigwigs.

All sorts of bad things happened during the concert, from the minus-one not playing on cue, to the microphones turning their voices into chipmunk-y sound. But the scholars surpassed it all because towards the middle of the concert, they actually realized that it was just a test and the glitches were staged.

Little Dreamer Amy on Uber

Amy of The Little Dreamers guested on Billy Crawford's Uberture yesterday as part of her bagging the Outstanding Little Dreamer award last Saturday together with Philip. I'm sure many viewers have felt the way I did when her story was unfolded to the public. Amy is a 6 year-old kid from Las Piñas City, stricken with poverty.

She received a gift of bicycle for getting the highest score last gala night and she was so thankful of it on the interview saying that she had always wanted a bicycle because she and her brother never had one. She even said, "kasi po mahirap lang po kami".

Uberture went to Amy's house to interview her and her family. They even prepared a video clip of Amy riding the pink bike with her little brother on the streets of a not so pleasant neighborhood. The backdrop of the interview was Amy's house, which has lumang yero (used galvanized iron sheets) as walls. That made me realize why Amy has colds ever since the competition started.

Her father works as a construction worker and her mother says that her husband's salary can only go as far as food for their table.

Gusto ko pong magka-kotse saka bahay saka tv kasi po 'yong tv namin naibenta na.

Amy is only 6 years old. A small, thin child with big dreams. I know her story has touched many hearts, as it has touched mine. Watching her performances will never be the same again.

Ai-ai Delas Alas in the Academy

The country's premiere comedienne Ai-ai Delas Alas visited the Acadreamians to give them some words of advice to prepare them for the mini-concert that they were tasked to do. She gave them tips on dealing with the audience and unavoidable technical glitches that could happen in a live show. She even cited one instance when a drunk man heckled her and how she dealt with it (by throwing a microphone to the man). She also mentioned that talent alone is not enough and that projection plays a major role in every performance.

The scholars found Delas Alas so funny that they felt comfortable with her. Even Laarni asked the comedienne if she practices on how to be funny on stage which Ai-ai answered with "[it's a] God's gift".

Meanwhile, Bunny really finds it hard to sing, especially the counterpoint song she's doing with Hansen. She even cried, saying she wouldn't be able to learn the right breathing to do the song properly in just a short time due to the fact that she's not familiar with the song. Hansen, on the other hand, encourages her that they can do it with practice.

Liezel on ASAP

liezel on asap

As part of her being the star scholar of the 7th gala night, Liezel Garcia had the privilege to perform on ASAP 08 last Sunday, August 10, 2008. She sang opposite Piolo Pascual.

liezel and piolo on asap

The other scholars were ecstatic about it especially while watching the performance through the Bravia. Cris, though, was most ecstatic with Piolo Pascual.

dyosa in the academy

Anne Curtis visited the academy in her Dyosa costume. She brought wine with her and made a toast to the scholars for finishing midterms.

Overall Midterm Grade

midterm gradesAfter a series of exams, the bottom 3 was announced to the scholars last Thursday night which consisted of Inaki, Bunny and Cris. The top scholar was announced to them last Saturday during the probation night and it was Liezel with the grade of 9.10.

This overall result was shown to them Sunday morning, already posted on the board by the main door when they woke up.

Saying One Thing and Doing Something Else

cris and hansen make-upOn the 7th probation night, Hansen and Miguel were the ones left for the scholars to save. On voting, Cris chose Miguel over Hansen. It so happened that Cris gave Hansen the infamous line "I got your back" after he was announced part of the bottom 4, and it's the reason why Hansen was so surprised when Cris voted for Miguel.

Hansen expressed his disappointment and hard feelings by not talking to Cris overnight. Cris cried a lot during the time saying that the incident would affect her relationship with Hansen, hysterically wanting to talk to Hansen and explain her side of the story. But as Hansen eventually said when they finally talked, he doesn't want to hear her explanation.

On a viewer's point of view, it showed one side of Cris. She told Hansen she got his back, then voted for Miguel. And upon voting Miguel, she couldn't even stand for her decision one bit, already whining the minute she stood in front of the probees showing her vote.

Reasons

In last night's prime time episode, Pinoy Dream Academy 2 showed a clip of the mentors discussing on who to save last probation night. They had Laarni, Hansen and Miguel to choose from, and they made a unanimous decision to save Laarni. They dropped Miguel because they already saved him once, leaving Laarni and Sen to choose from. They chose Laarni because:

1. (Teacher Kitchy) vocal capabilities, musical intelligence and progress from the very beginning;
2. (Direk Joey) among the 3 (Laarni, Sen and Miguel), Laarni had the most difficult song and she delivered a fair performance compared to the other two;
3. (Headmaster Ryan) they need her in the competition because she gives a good fight.

Much praises for Laarni now, it's really time they see her worth. But could it be that they just want to avoid public bashing which happened when they saved someone with less musical and vocal capabilities over Laarni on the 7th probation night?

Miguel and Hansen got 3 votes each from the scholars. They could have easily asked Poy to vote but the rule book says that on a tie, the verdict depends on the scholar who was saved by the mentors, therefore, Laarni made the decision on who to save. She chose Miguel because he had been on probation more times than Hansen. In fact, Hansen hasn't been on the bottom 2 yet, thereby, giving him the experience of being on probation.

I agree, though, on Laarni's decision of saving Miguel. Musicality-wise, Miguel has more of it than Hansen. And anyone else would save someone who had always been there for her even on the times when everyone else was against her.

The scholars voted as follows:

Bugoy - Hansen
Inaki - Miguel
Laarni - Miguel
Liezel - Hansen
Cris - Miguel
Van - Hansen

Apple Abarquez on Uberture

apple and billy on uberture

Pinoy Dream Academy's ex-scholar Apple Abarquez guested on Uberture this afternoon. Billy got to ask her about the baby talk and the Miguel issues and Apple said she doesn't seduce Miguel at all. About the baby talking, she said her speaking voice pitch is really high that's why it's always mistaken that she's talking like a baby. She admits, though, that she baby talks inside the academy because Bunny misses her baby so much.

Apple was able to say goodbye to the other scholars a few hours after the eviction. It was a teary moment as she was hugged by the remaining scholars while saying their goodbyes.

Salamat sa Eat Bulaga!

This video made me laugh. I don't watch Wowowee that much. Daytime is always busy for me. Thanks to the people who make efforts in uploading these kind of stuff. At least we get to catch them no matter how late it is.

In this video, the winner mistakenly thanked the show's rival. Much fun. Hahaha.

Philip and Amy, This Week's Outstanding Dreamer

The Little Dreamers sang sports-inspired songs in view of the Beijing Olympics. Dingdong Avanzado joined resident jurors Jimmy Antiporda and Aiza Seguerra in ranking the kids. It wasn't surprising that Philip got the top score again because he is very consistent in his performances, delivering his songs with great energy and much gusto. With regards to Amy, it's actually high time the judges notice her. Angelo hasn't been on the top for quite some time now because they've been giving him slow songs. It seems that his voice is choosy when it comes to pieces. He only excels with upbeats.

Last week, the dreamers who got the "needs improvement" grade were Nikki and Kelly. Kelly, it seems, has been consistent in the bottom. Only once had she not been on probation. On the other hand, it's Nikki's 2nd (and last time) at the bottom. She only got 48.21% of text votes against Kelly's 51.79%.

Not Liezel!

Last night's gala of the Little Dreamers started with a correction of Saturday night's results. It was announced that Liezel, Bugoy and Poy were the top 3 scholars. It so happened that due to miscalculation and a computer error in ranking, Liezel was not really part of the top 3. Cris actually belonged to her slot with a grade of 9.10. Liezel only got 9.00 ranking 5th in a tie with Inaki.

Bunny and Hansen on Probation

It's official: Laarni was saved by the mentors from probation. The scholars chose between Hansen and Miguel to save because they can't save Bunny due to her getting the lowest score on midterms (and not being on the top 3 tonight). Miguel got more votes from his co-scholars, therefore, leaving Hansen on probation with the hot mama.

Who will get more text votes between Bunny and Hansen? We'll soon find out. Voting, though, will not start until they announce it on primetime this coming Monday.

Laarnians Unite

It was a long week of wait (and text voting) for the Laarnians. They thought Laarni deserved to stay inside the academy, and if not for the face-off, she shouldn't have been on probation. But their prayers and votes paid off. Laarni Losala is saved from eviction tonight as she garnered 72.74% of votes taking landslide victory against Miguel who only got 13.96% and Apple who got the least percentage of 13.30%, reason for her to be evicted tonight.

Chivas and Bea were on the audience tonight. Bea was noticeably crying while Apple was singing her swan song Sweet Love.

Triumph it may seem to Laarni tonight but she is again part of this week's bottom 4 for getting a grade of only 7.83. Other scholars in the bottom 4 were Sen who got 7.70 and Miguel who got 7.30. Bunny is also on the bottom 4 for getting the lowest grade of 6.16 in the midterm exams. She could have had a chance to be saved by the scholars if she was part of the top 3 tonight.

Bugoy got the star scholarship with a grade of 9.60. Others who were part of the top 3 were honorary scholar Poy Palma and Liezel (who also topped the midterms with her grade of 9.10).

Piolo Photoshoots for Eponymous Brand

piolo 5Piolo Pascual recently had a photoshoot for the line of clothes and perfume named after him.

Piolo was so buff when he faced the camera half naked. He obviously prepared hard for the shoot and the camera proved it as it showed every angle of his muscular body.

Piolo said having a clothing line in his own name wasn't part of even his wildest imaginations. He was aware of American actors having designer lines but never thought it would also happen to him.

On other notes, Piolo's team-up with Angel Locsin would take a new turn after their high rating tv series, Lobo. The two are set to film a new movie which will be shot in Bukidnon and Australia. Piolo says his role in this upcoming movie is something quite new to him. It will be shot in a ranch where he will have to ride horses (and not to mention catch them as well) and bullfight. According to the actor, it's something he has never done before.

Asked about his link-up with Ruffa Gutierrez, he admitted that they do have a communication these days. He even said that they texted a few days ago where he told the actress that he was hoping they would be able to work on tv or do a movie together.

Tony Hadley Inside the Academy

Tony Hadley, vocalist of the 80's pop band Spandau Ballet, visited the academy.

The scholars were band practicing when the headmaster summoned them all to the dance hall. The clueless scholars found themselves in front of Tony Hadley singing Gold. Most of them didn't know Tony Hadley but all of them were familiar with the song he was singing. After the number, Mr. C. asked Miguel to sing another of Spandau Ballet's greatest hits, True. But the British singer was most amazed when Bugoy sang his 8th gala piece As by George Michael, even asking Bugoy where he learned to sing like that. Bugoy made everyone laugh by his antics jumping up and down saying he didn't understand what Tony Hadley was saying.

As to the parting words of the British singer to the scholars, he said that the greatest opponent of every performer are nerves, which they should overcome. To wrap it all up, he advised them to just enjoy what they are doing.

Bottom 3

Headmaster Ryan Cayabyab gave his midterm exam to the scholars last Thursday. The material he gave them "is a bit tricky which is really written so that I [the headmaster] will find out the notes that you will miss." He also added that the scholars should listen carefully.

One by one the scholars went to the piano room. Mr. C. sang the song first while the scholar listens and try to grasp every note he/she can. Then the scholar was made to sing. All of those was within 5 minutes.

Miguel was the one who sang the song in exact melody while Van owned it.

After the midterms, the Headmaster made some announcements. They are not going to announce the top scholar but announce the bottom 3 instead, but in no particular order. Even before the midterms started, the scholars already knew that the one who gets the lowest grade will automatically be on probation. The thing now is, if that bottom scholar isn't part of the top 3 next gala night, he/she cannot be saved by the other scholars from probation. So the announced bottom 3, not knowing who among them is at the bottom, will vie for the top 3 positions.

They are not announcing the scholar who got the lowest grade because they want the three from the bottom to work hard and aim for the top 3. The 3 scholars at the bottom are Inaki, Bunny and Cris.

Also, starting last Saturday, the star scholar will perform on ASAP Sunday the following week. Last Saturday's star scholar Liezel will be on ASAP this Sunday, in a duet with Piolo Pascual.

Direk Joey's Midterm Results

The scholars were made to prepare two songs for Direk Joey's exam, although they would only perform one song. In order to determine which song they will sing, Direk Joey had the scholars pick a card. Ace of diamonds would mean they would sing The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, ace of spades would mean Umbrella, and a joker would mean the scholar was free to choose whichever song he liked. Even the order of performance was through a draw lots.

50% of the grade depended on how they looked on cam, the other 50% depended on how they looked live.

With the self-designed costume using the PDA shirt, the scholars performed one by one in front of Direk Joey and Poy, who acted as assistant to the director, since she's not included in the midterms.

Here are the scores:
Miguel - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Live: 9.2
Cam: 9.3
Average: 9.25

Cris - Umbrella
Live: 8.5
Cam: 8.7
Average: 8.6

Bunny - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Live: 7.6
Cam: 7.7
Average: 7.65

Inaki - Umbrella
Live: 8.8
Cam: 8.7
Average: 8.75

Van - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Live: 8.5
Cam: 8.8
Average: 8.65

Liezel - Umbrella
Live: 9.4
Cam: 9.2
Average: 9.3

Sen - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Live: 8.5
Cam: 8.9
Average: 8.7

Bugoy - Umbrella
Live: 9.2
Cam: 9.0
Average: 9.1

Apple - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Live: 9.2
Cam: 9.0
Average: 9.1

Laarni - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Live: 9.5
Cam: 9.45
Average: 9.47

Laarni got the highest score of 9.47 followed by Liezel with a 9.3 and Miguel with 9.25. Bottom 3 were Van with 8.65, Cris with 8.6 and Bunny with 7.65.

Issues

The scholars had taken their midterms with Teacher Kitchy Molina. The boys sang Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin (written by Louie Ocampo and Joey Albert) and the girls were given Michelle LeGrande's The Way He Makes Me Feel. Teacher Kitchy picked the two songs because, as she says, these songs cover all voice ranges.

After the exam, Liezel topped it again with a grade of 8.5 while Bunny got the lowest grade of 2.5. Here's the complete list of scores:

Apple: 6.5
Bunny: 2.5
Cris: 4.0
Laarni: 6.5
Liezel: 8.5
Bugoy: 8.25
Inaki: 7.0
Miguel: 7.65
Hansen: 8.0
Van: 7.5

The scholars also faced the mentors one by one to answer some issues about them that have been circulating the tabloids for quite some time now. It is also to prepare them on how to face the press and how to answer such questions. PDA prepared tabloid type headlines flashed on screen to the scholars.

epal apple
Apple denied the issue, but later cried in the boys' room.

bunny
Bunny confirmed the issue, but said that she now believes in herself.

bugoy
Bugoy didn't confirm nor deny the issue, he said he's still in the process of finding out his true self.

laarni
Laarni denied the issue, saying she only cried because she's a very emotional person.

liezel
Liezel said she's just a shy girl from the province.

cris
She'd deny it, of course, and said that she has a crush on Van because he's so cute but she had feelings for Hansen.

miguel
Miguel doesn't know what to show the public.

inaki
Inaki denied the issue.

sen van
Of course Hansen denied it. But I never saw Van's side of the issue.

Hansen was affected by the issues Cris had, because it involved him and Van. He talked about it with Liezel, talked about it with Bunny, and even kissed Cris on the lips. It's just showing that he's conscious of the issue that befell him and Van. Is he trying to prove he's not gay? Or is he trying to divert the public's attention from him and Van by being and talking with Cris?
