The 2014 Cinema One Originals Festival opening night lived up to its “intense” theme. The event was intense as hundreds flocked to Trinoma Cinema 7 to catch director Elwood Perez’s 51st feature film, “Esoterika: Maynila.”
Written by Elwood Perez in collaboration with columnist Jessica Zafra, “Esoterika: Maynila” follows the story of Mario, a restaurant worker who transforms himself into a literary artist. The cast are Ronnie Liang, Boots Anson Roa, Vince Tañada, Carlos Celdran, Snooky Serna, Lance Raymundo, Jon Hall, and Cecile Guidote Alvarez. Perez says that his new film is inspired by his youth and personal experiences.
As a prelude to Cinema One Originals Opening Night, the critically-acclaimed Indian film, “The Lunchbox” was shown at 5PM before “Estokerika: Maynila.”
“The Lunchbox” is a tale of friendship between a middle-age office worker and a young wife that was forged because of a misdelivered lunchbox. The film has bagged 22 awards from major international festivals including Grand Golden Rail (Critics’ Week Viewers Choice) at the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival.
Now on its 10th year, The 2014 Cinema One Originals will be presenting 10 full-length competition films, short films, the Best of Asian Cinema, and restored classics. The festival runs from November 9-18 at Trinoma, Glorietta, Fairview Terraces and Greenhills Dolby Atmos.
