Philippine Azkals wins against Palestine, places third in 2012 AFC Challenge Cup

The Philippine Azkals won against Palestine in the match held March 19th in Nepal. The game ended with a score of 4-3.

It was a fight for the third place, after the Azkals lost to Turkmenistan last Friday and failed to snatch the chance to be in the finals.

The four goals were courtesy of Phil Younghusband during the 4th and 24th minutes, Angel Guirado during the 42nd minute and Juani Guirado during the 70th minute.

Edward Sacapano was the team’s goal keeper because Neil Etheridge was given a red card during their previous match.

They may not have made it to the finals, but the Azkals made history in Philippine football with their third place finish and has kept the hopes up of the Pinoy football fans for more exciting games in the future.

Cristy Ramos cries sexual harassment against Angel Guirado and Lexton Moy

Cristy Ramos, daughter of former president Fidel V. Ramos and match commissioner during the Philippines-Malaysia friendly game last February 29th, filed sexual harassment complaints before the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) against Philippine national team players Angel Guirado and Lexton Moy.

In a statement, Cristy narrated what happened inside the Azkals’ locker room while she was checking the players individually for their accreditation cards and kits. When she called Moy, the player stood by her right side and said loudly, “Must be a B cup,” which was loudly laughed at by the rest of the team. The match commissioner said she was the only female in the room which made her sure that he was referring to her bra size.

Meanwhile, when she was checking on Guirado, the player “stood purposely” in front of her just wearing his briefs. The player “made no attempts to wear shorts or cover his underwear.” The team again laughed loudly while Guirado was being checked.

Philippine Azkals Wins Against Sri Lankan Brave Reds in July 3 Game

The Philippine National Football Team Azkals won against Sri Lanka's Brave Reds with an aggregate score of 5-1 during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Preliminary Competition in Asia.

Both teams got 1 goals each during the first leg of the game held in Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka last June 29. Nate Burkey scored that lone goal for the Azkals.

The second leg of the game was held July 3, 2011 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, Manila, which was flocked by Filipino fans who were ever supportive of the country's football team.

The first half ended with 2-0 in favor of the Azkals. First goal was scored by Chieffy Caligdong while the second one was by the crowd favorite Phil Younghusband.

Angel Guirado Aldeguer scored the third goal during the second half. The fourth goal, which came from a penalty kick by Phil Younghusband, put the game beyond Sri Lanka.

The game ended with a score of 4-0 in favor of the Philippine Azkals, and they won with an aggregate score of 5-1, making them advance to the second round of World Cup Qualifier vs. Kuwait.

Starting 11  were Etheridge, del Rosario, Borromeo, Gier, Ott, Schrock, Mulders, Guirado, J. Younghusband, Caligdong, and P.Younghusband.

It's just so unfortunate that Aly Borromeo and Stephan Schrock will miss the next match versus Kuwait after accumulating 2 yellow cards.

Angel Locsin was a camera favorite who watched the game with fellow actress Bubbles Paraiso. The two were flashed many times especially during the two times Phil Younghusband scored. It is well known that Phil and Angel are dating.

Philippine Azkals Wins Against Bangladesh; Qualifies for the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup

The Philippine Azkals won against Bangladesh with a 3-0 score, placing them in the top 2 of the Group A. The team is now qualified for the 2012 Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup.

The first goal was scored by Ian Araneta and the remaining two goals were by Angel Guirado Aldeguer.

Many Pinoys were actually quite confident that the Azkals would win the match because Bangladesh proved weakest when it was defeated by Palestine and Myanmar in their first two games.

The Azkals, though undefeated, was able to sum up 5 points from the three games they played in the group qualifying tournament. They got 1 point each for draw games against both Myanmar and Palestine. Luckily, they won against Bangladesh giving them 3 points.

Palestine, also undefeated, only had 1 draw game, and that's the game against the Azkals. They won against Bangladesh and Myanmar giving them a total of 7 points.

As of the moment, the countries that qualify for the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup are:
Group A – Palestine and Philippines
Group B – India and Turkmenistan
Group C – Maldives and Tajikistan

There will be 8 teams that will qualify but the top 2 from Group D are still not determined.

Only the 8 qualified teams for the tournament proper can bid to host the finals. [Wiki]

It would have been great if the Philippines had at least one state-of-the-art football field in Manila. I'm kinda sure we can't host the finals.

Members of the Philippine football team will be back in Manila on Sunday. I'm sure there'd be much media hype and a lot of sponsored victory parties for them. They have a year left before the finals. Let's just hope Neil Etheridge would be available to play by then.

6'4" Fil-Spanish Angel Aldeguer Brings More Hope to the Azkals Fans

Phil Younghusband may not be able to play in the group qualifying tournament in Myanmar starting March 21st, but the Philippine Azkals fans need not be worried.

The 6'4" Filipino-Spanish striker, Angel Guirado Aldeguer, has confirmed his participation in Myanmar. It's so timely now that Phil Younghusband won't be able to play due to a pulled hamstring.

And Angel Aldeguer isn't joining the Azkals just to fill in for Phil. He is really joining the national team. You could imagine the force it would make when Phil gets better and the two are able to play together for the team.

With Neil Etheridge and Angel Guirado Aldeguer playing for the Philippine Azkals in Myanmar, our chances are definitely better this time.
