"Only You" Premieres Tonight

The Philippine version of Korea's hit television series "Only You" premieres tonight on ABS-CBN, replacing the timeslot left by "I Love Betty La Fea." "Only You" stars Angel Locsin, Sam Milby, and Diether Ocampo.

The series was partly shot in Korea, the place of the original series.

It's the first time for Angel Locsin to work with Sam and Diether. We will now see if they have such chemistry as Angel and Piolo Pascual had in "Lobo" before.

"Only You" also stars Iya Villania and Dimples Romana. Rory Quintos directs.

Last year's PDA Little Dreamers winner, Philip Nolasco, and runner-up, Amy Nobleza, are in Korea right now to perform in SBS Korea's "Star King." It can be noted that Charice Pempengco's YouTube video that paved the way to her international stardom was taken in the said Korean show.

Armed with good singing voices and determination, Philip and Amy will surely leave the Koreans in awe of Filipino singing talent once more.

Manuel Chua Tries Acting

After finishing third in Pinoy Fear Factor, Manuel Chua is now trying his luck in acting via ABS-CBN's upcoming Precious Hearts Romances: Bud Brothers. Dubbed as "Super Manuel" for beating some of Fear Factor's world records, the struggling businessman says he was a bit stiff during the first few days of taping but is now already comfortable.

Manuel is paired with PFF's "El Ultimo Participante," the Korean doll, Janna Dominguez. That alone, has made Super Manuel comfortable.

It can be recalled that Manuel and Janna had a special thing going on while in Argentina for PFF. It was even a love triangle with Marion. When asked if that thing with Janna would be rekindled since they're now doing a television soap together, Manuel said, "Siguro po."

Manuel can also be seen in the upcoming Juday-Ryan sitcom, George and Cecil.

American Idol 8: Goodbye Lil and Anoop

Lil Rounds, who was also part of the bottom 2 last week, was the first to be eliminated tonight. She just couldn't seem to get it right as she was bashed by the judges for the millionth time yesterday.

Matt Giraud, who was supposed to be eliminated last week but was saved by the judges, was not even part of the bottom 3 this week. The other two who went into the danger zone were Anoop Desai and Allison Iraheta. And after much commercial breaks and 4 guests, Anoop was also sent packing.

Freda Payne, Thelma Houston and KC of KC and the Sunshine performed disco tunes. David Archuleta also guested and performed "Touch My Hand" from his self-titled debut album.

It was all-in-all a fine night, especially when the top 7 did their production number of "Shake Your Body Down To The Ground" by Michael Jackson. Paula Abdul choreographed the number and we can see she still hasn't lost her touch. Before becoming a singer, Paula choreographed dances for big singers like Janet Jackson.

Only 5 idol hopefuls remain - Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Matt Giraud, and the last girl standing Allison Iraheta. Simon Cowell was right when he said that Allison is the only hope of the girls.

The finals is less than a month away. We go for Adam and Kris but we can always let go of Kris for Danny or Allison. Go Adam!

Sharon and Ai Ai Star in "Best Friends Forever"

Wenn Deramas, the director of the blockbusters Tanging Ina and Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat, reunites with Ai Ai Delas Alas in the upcoming comedy flick, Best Friends Forever, which also stars Sharon Cuneta.

Ai Ai plays Sharon's dance instructor and eventually the mistress of Sharon's husband (John Estrada).

Also in the cast are ace comedians Candy Pangilinan and Chokoleit.

Sharon Cuneta's last movie was Caregiver, a blockbuster with a total gross of 140 million pesos. On the other hand, Ai Ai Delas Alas's last was Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat which is currently the 2nd highest grossing Pinoy movie of all time.

Considering that the two leads are blockbuster queens in their own right, would Best Friends Forever surpass what Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat made in the box office?

Best Friends Forever is the Mother's Day offering of Star Cinema and will be shown on May 13th nationwide.

Slumdog Millionaire Child Star Is For Sale

Selling children is illegal. Selling your own child is heartless.

Rubina Ali, the child star from Slumdog Millionaire, is reportedly for sale! Perhaps realising that his kid's fame won't stay for too long, Rafiq Qureshi likes to sell her for £200,000.

Qureshi blames Hollywood bosses for not giving them more for his daughter's participation in the Oscar-winning movie, Slumdog Millionaire.

He says he's only doing what he thinks is best for his family and for Rubina.

Read the complete sad story here.

Arnel Pineda Prohibited To Sing Journey Songs Without the Band

Arnel Pineda is reportedly prohibited from singing Journey originals in his solo gigs here in Manila. It was allegedly due to some YouTube videos where Pineda was seen doing second-rate performances of Journey songs in one of his solo gigs.

The singer confirms the news but denies that it's due to the said videos in YouTube. Pineda says the reason for the "prohibition" is that singing those songs without his band takes away the "sacredness" of the songs.

"Kambal sa Uma"

Laarni Lozada's Kung Iniibig Ka Niya, from her self-titled debut album, is given a little props by ABS-CBN by being the official theme of the upcoming Kambal sa Uma.

Laarni recently graduated with a BS Education degree from the Philippine Women's University. But before that, her not showing up in her concert ("Status") caused a little negative buzz. "Status" was also topbilled by her fellow PDA grand finalists.

Kambal Sa Uma stars Shaina Magdayao and Melissa Ricks as the freak twins separated by fate. Supporting them are Rio Locsin, Gina Alajar, Lotlot de Leon, Jason Abalos, Matt Evans, Carlo Guevarra, Jay-R Siaboc, Bangs Garcia, and a lot more.

Kambal sa Uma premieres April 20, 2009.

Charice Pempengco on Italian TV

Our very own Charice Pempengco was invited to sing in an Italian variety show called "Ti Lascio Una Canzone" (I'm Leaving a Song for You). She sang a couple of songs which she is known for ("I Will Always Love You" and "Listen"), plus a duet with a 14-year-old Italian singer named Gianluca Ginoble of the song "The Prayer."

The singing was accompanied by a live orchestra in a big venue. Charice's mom was seen at the audience. The young diva acknowledged her mom by saying that she'd be nothing if not for her. She also advised the young singers in the show to keep soaring high.

Videos after the jump.

"Zuma" on ABS-CBN

ABS-CBN will remake the classic fantasy story of Zuma but will center the plot on Zuma's daughter, Galema. Zuma was made into a film in the mid-80s starring Max Laurel and Snooky Serna as Galema. In the second film, though, a certain Jenny Lyn did the part of Galema.

Comics writer Jim Fernandez created Zuma during the 70s for Aliwan comics and it was a hit among comics fans that the story continued up to the early 80s. Zuma, having green skin and a two-headed snake resting on his shoulders, is a demi-god who feeds on the hearts of virgins. Aside from Galema, he also has a son named Dino, characterized as having a head of a dinosaur/snake.

It was first rumored that Zuma would be a GMA-7 movie, but it is now confirmed that ABS-CBN is the one adapting it. The question, though, of who would star in the series, still remains.

Anne Curtis is reportedly being tapped for the role of Galema. Come to think of it, she's the only one left without a project, upcoming or otherwise.

Kristine Hermosa has Maruja, Angel Locsin has Only You, KC Concepcion has Lovers in Paris, Judy Ann Santos has the still-hasn't-been-aired Humingi Ako sa Langit, and so on...

IMO, Anne will do a good Galema. She had been a centaur, a bird, a mermaid... After all that, I think being a snake would already be effortless. Just kidding. But I honestly think she's good for the role. Hhhssssssssssss...

"Are You The Next Big Star?"

After the not-so-successful run of "Pinoy Idol," GMA-7 is now cooking up a new talent search show called "Are You The Next Big Star?"

I really wonder why they don't just bring back "Pinoy Pop Superstar" since it had a successful run for quite a number of seasons before, not to mention it's their original show and it's almost like "Pinoy Idol" anyway.

From what I understand, aside from the usual amateur singers who are waiting for their big breaks, "Are You The Next Big Star?" (AYTNBS for short? uhh hard to memorize) will also accept professional singers as long as they are 16-24 years old, don't have any existing recording contracts, and don't have mainstream appearances from 2008 onwards.

Sounds exciting, but still, they could have just altered "Pinoy Pop Superstar" a little bit to make it more like this one.

And oh yeah, the name of Jolina Magdangal is being attached to the show (in the forums, that is), though there is no telling yet.

Anyway, GMA-7 might have something in store to make this show not so PPS-like. We'll find out soon.

If you're willing to join, go audition on these dates, at the following places:
April 2-3 - SM Baliwag
April 18 - SM Batangas
April 24-25 - SM Marikina.

They need to bring their the original and a photocopy of their birth certificates, a valid ID, 2 photos (1 full body and 1 close-up), and 2 audition songs (2 CDs in minus 1 format).

Go na!
