Oscars 2016 - Nominees

"The Revenant" led this year's nominees for the 88th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars 2016).

Announced on Thursday, January 14, 2016, the Alejandro G. Iñárritu-helmed movie earned twelve nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCarpio), Best Supporting Actor (Tom Hardy), and Best Director (Iñárritu).

"Mad Max: Fury Road" followed with ten nominations, while "The Martian" was close behind with seven.

The battle for the Best Actor award is quite tight with DiCaprio and Matt Damon ("The Martian") in the list. Both won best actor awards (for Drama and Musical or Comedy, respectively) at the recent Golden Globes. They are also competing with current Oscars best actor winner, Eddie Redmayne, who was nominated for his role in "The Danish Girl."

The winners will be announced in a ceremony on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. It will be hosted by Chris Rock, who also hosted the 77th Oscars in 2005.
