The Miss Universe 2013 coronation night was held at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia on November 9th (Nov. 10 in Manila). The show was hosted by MSNBC Live’s Thomas Roberts and America’s Got Talent’s Melanie Brown.

The show started with the contestants’ introduction. They were wearing black and red little dresses. Videos of the girls’ respective national costumes were also being flashed on screen. The winner for Best in National Costume was announced days before during the Preliminary Competition. It went to Miss Nicaragua Nastassja Bolivar.
Thomas and Melanie appeared on the stage after the contestants finished introducing themselves.
Jeannie Mai was introduced as a backstage correspondent, wearing a red Michael Cinco gown. She said that the contestants don’t hear her so she can pretty much say want she wants.
Thomas Roberts mentioned the calamity being experienced by the Philippines and Vietnam.

Miss Philippines Ariella Arida won fan favorite, determined through online votes that ran for days before the pageant night. She was the last called, and the venue roared with cheers.
Judges introduced - Chef Nobu, Tara Lipinski, Italo Fontana, Anne V, Philip Kirkorov, Carol Alt, Farouk Shami and Steven Tyler.
Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo appeared on stage wearing her crown to formally announce Miss Nicaragua Nastassja Bolivar as winner of the Best in National Costume award.

Top 16 parade in their red and black Yamamay swimsuits. Ara Arida was a goddess, a standout among the girls.

The Top 10 candidates talk about themselves. Ariella said what’s special about the Philippines is its people.
All the contestants are back on stage in their evening gowns, but only the Top 10 ladies are parading in their gowns while Emin performs.
Miss Philippines Ariella Arida had her long black hair down during the Evening Gown Competition, unlike in the Preliminary Competition.

Top 5 immediately went straight to the final question. It’s the first time in the competition.
Miss Ecuador picked judge Philip Kirkorov.
Question: What would happen to the world if we could no longer use the internet?
Answer: One of the disadvantages of internet is that we are no longer as close together as families. We should use the internet in a positive way. It is never too late to start.
Miss Brazil picked judge Carol Alt
Question: What’s your opinion about countries where women are not allowed to do certain things like travel abroad?
Answer: Women achieve their independence through time, unfortunately nowadays we still have problems with independence as women. But we need to keep our open minds because nowadays we are capable of everything.
Miss Spain picked judge Anne V
Question: What is the most significant thing we can do to elect more women to political offices around the world.
Answer: Discipline, know how to adapt herself, how to respond, her work, her performance in fulfilling her job.
Miss Philippines picked Tara Lipinski
Question: What can be done about lack of jobs around the world?
Answer: We should invest in education and that is my primary advocacy. Education is a primary source and ticket for better future.
Miss Venezuela picked judge Steven Tyler
Question: What is your greatest fear and how do you overcome it
Answer: We should overcome all of our fears and this in turn will make us much stronger persons then we can face any challenge.
The Top 5 do their walk. Miss Philippines Ariella Arida was described as a “perfect contestant” not just in this contest but also because she’s an advocate of education.
